Wikimania 2010 could be coming to Stockholm! edit

I'm leaving you a note as you may be interested in this opportunity.

People from all six Nordic Wiki-communities (sv, no, nn, fi, da and is) are coordinating a bid for Wikimania 2010 in Stockholm. I'm sending you a message to let you know that this is occurring, and over the next few months we're looking for community support to make sure this happens! See the bid page on meta and if you like such an idea, please sign the "supporters" list at the bottom. Tack (or takk), and have a wonderful day! Mike H. Fierce! 08:22, 6 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

HNoMS Bjørgvin and HNoMS Nidaros edit

My reason for replacing these ships' pages with redirects is as follows: Wikipedia:Naming conventions (ships), in the section "Ships that changed name or nationality" says: "An article about a ship that changed name or nationality should be placed at the best-known name, with a redirect from the other name". It also says "But if the ship had significant careers in two navies, it may be best to create two articles with one ending at the transfer and the other beginning then, depending on how long the articles are and how extensive the transformation of the ship." However, this does not apply in this case since the ships were never delivered and never served under their Norwegian names. However, I won't replace the redirects before hearing from you. FYI edit

Uku has complained about us at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring (here), as well as forum shopping at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard#"Masonic conspiracy theories" as part of the Freemasonry project, and at Wikipedia:Wikiquette alerts#User:Blueboar, User:MSJapan and User:WegianWarrior... no need for a response at any of these pages, others have spoken up for us, and the admins are not bying his arguments. Just thought you should be notified of the complaints. Blueboar (talk) 17:47, 3 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Uku edit

Since Uku can not (or will not) choose a topic to focus on, I have done so. Theresa has advised me that we can not have it both ways... we can not demand that Uku to start over and continue to reply to his comments in the mish-mash of bullet points. She was going to archive the old discussions (as an attemt to force Uku to join us in starting over, I suppose)... but as long as we are replying to Uku in those old discussions, the threads are active and she can not do so. So... let him rant in the older discussions all he wants for now (we can get to them later)... we should only reply to comments he makes in the new, more focused, thread. Also... we need to stay focused... he has a habbit of changing the subject mid-way through a discussion. We need to keep the discussion focussed on improving the language of the article... and not let him sidetrack us. Blueboar (talk) 15:34, 4 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:Krag-Petersson Round on breechblock.jpg edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Krag-Petersson Round on breechblock.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 14:20, 25 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:US Krag M1892 carbine.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:US Krag M1892 carbine.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 11:01, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Krag-Jørgensen etc. edit

Hi, noticed you're still maintaining the article against vandalism. Haven't seen a response to my note at the article talk page, though. It was very odd to discover a featured article sourced to what appear to be non-RS personal websites. No doubt this counted among the site's best work four years ago, yet it seems distinctly list-heavy and citation-light by 2009 standards, and has other unusual characteristics such as single sentence paragraphs. Are you interested in upgrading it to current norms? Unfortunately I wouldn't have the skills to do so. DurovaCharge! 19:14, 29 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:Krag-Jørgensen-Hotchkiss.jpg edit

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Krag-Jørgensen-Hotchkiss.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 10:48, 2 June 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Kammerlader - feature article review edit

Hi Wegian, I have nominated Kammerlader for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article's featured status. secret societies edit

Re: Secret societies The current description which you have reverted to is untrue. Freemasons, Skull and Bones members etc do not attempt to hide their existence from non-members. It is rather their activities which they conceal from non-members. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.106.115.153 (talk) 20:33, 20 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

You are now a Reviewer edit

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Karanacs (talk) 17:35, 15 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for File:Froya.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Froya.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
