Jenny (Doctor Who character)

edit

As I would hope that you had seen as an Editor's Note on Jenny's entry, the Unknown/Time Lord/Gallifreyan issue has been discussed to death.

In the episode there is much factual science (factual meaning "they explained it exactly the way real world biology/science works") given as to how the Doctor's DNA is given a (for lack of a better phrase in my head) "reproductive act level of randomization", meaning the same amount of randomization that is given to every sperm/egg. This is not even true cloneing, due to the fact that the DNA is not used as an exact copy; it is a machine-initiated descendant using the base DNA (the Dcotor's) as both the male and female.

"Galifreyan" is not even a term used in the series, and more to the point it has never been specifically covered in the series that there is any difference between the native inhabitants of the planet other than social status and technology. While it is very much hinted at that there is indeed a large difference (to the possibiliy that the "Time Lords" are a technologically a biologically enhanced version of the base "Galifreyan") this has to date not been anything other than speculation.

Those, respectfully, are (in a nutshell) the reasons for "Unknown" and "Galifreyan" not being used. --Human.v2.0 (talk) 15:19, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

"Implied" is one of the first words in that quote you listed, as well as the most important one. The simple fact is that it is not known. My personal view is that "Time Lord" is closer to implying something like "Senator" or "Professor" in the Gallifreyan internal society, but there is nothing more than a few quick mentions across decades of shows that can even cause this assumption let alone support it.
In the case of Wikipedia, "Time Lord" is used to reference the race as a whole, not just the various social structures. In the planet of Gallifrey it might have only referred to one subsection, but at far as the entire in-series universe is aware of, it is the name of the race itself. Perhaps they would have referred to themselves as Gallifreyans or the like, but who knows? Jenny is genetically direct descendant of the Doctor with no out-of-species DNA mixed in, making her a member of the same species. That species is (until future information might appear) referred to as "Time Lords", making Jenny a Time Lord, albiet an effectively infant member of the race.
On an unrelated note, I'm sure that "Time Tots" was used mostly because it is a funny sounding term for baby Time Lords/Gallifreyans and no other significant reason. --Human.v2.0 (talk) 16:22, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
