Cricket, etc.

Thank you. I don't need any medals, but I'll accept small, unmarked bills, preferably 10s and 20s. Regarding "Wahkeenah" and my face, obviously you haven't seen my face. And I just assumed the writer was trying to be insulting, but it was so off-the-wall it was hard to tell. Back to Cricket, I tried to write a summary paragraph and it got reworked and corrected quite a bit, and I think it looks good now. My main point was that someone who did not understand Cricket (which I do only up to a point) would have no idea what the general nature of the game is from reading the intro, and I wanted to fix that... for my own benefit as much as anyone else's. The true test would be to find someone who doesn't know Cricket at all, and have them read it and see if they have any clue afterward. Wahkeenah 20:04, 2 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Excellent. I actually wrote it in a way that echoed the Baseball intro, a game I know very well. I got corrected on a number of points right away - that they don't use the terms "offense" and "defense", and that bowling is not to be characterized as "throwing" - but the basic concept was kept and now the intro helps make the game come alive a bit more... as you have now independently confirmed. Cheerio! :) Wahkeenah 21:19, 2 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

It does help to know baseball already. The two games are kind of like distant cousins. And once you know the concepts, it also helps to just watch a televised match all the way through, as I have done on occasion. One major difference is that each run counts for a lot in baseball, and just a little bit in cricket. In cricket it's the accumulation of points that's important. You could kind of compare soccer and basketball that way. Each goal in soccer is big. Each point in basketball is small, but they add up. Wahkeenah 21:19, 2 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Kudos. May I quote your kind words the next time someone hassles me about something I write? Anonymously, of course. :) Wahkeenah 12:33, 3 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Everything I write is useful, although the audience to whom it is useful can be decidely small. :) Wahkeenah 21:52, 3 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Sorry.
