  If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. For more details about what, exactly, constitutes a conflict of interest, please see our conflict of interest guidelines. Thank you. bodnotbod (talk) 17:12, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

  Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Algonquian peoples. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Table of integrals edit

Hello. I've added to Wikipedia's table of integrals the link that you added to logarithm and someone else deleted.

It appears to me that it's a worthwhile external link and that the person who deleted it is unaware of its content but is concerned about a conflict of interests resulting from the fact that the person adding the link and the author of the external page are the same person. Michael Hardy (talk) 20:31, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I don't follow Michael Hardy's logic here. Whether or not "it's a worthwhile external link" to table of integrals, it is not a worthwhile link to logarithm, being of only very marginal relevance, so I wonder what the evidence is that the editor who removed it from there "is unaware of its content". It was quite rightly removed.
Also that editor is quite right to be "concerned about a conflict of interests", as all of your editing consists of adding links to your own work. Please read the section of the Wikpedia guideline on external links concerning advertising and conflicts of interest, which says, amongst other things, "you should avoid linking to a site that you own, maintain, or represent—even if WP guidelines seem to imply that it may otherwise be linked". It would also be helpful to read the general guideline on conflict of interest, and the guideline on what is regarded in Wikipedia as spam linking.
