Fair use rationale for Image:BuckLanguageArts.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:BuckLanguageArts.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. After Midnight 0001 21:15, 5 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Band Pages edit

Why is it that other bands, such as relient k, can have a wiki page but a band like the kazams can not? I can understand where pages for the members would be out of line but then again some members of other bands have pages as well. I feel that this is an injustice to bands that have not sold out to the main stream scene. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ivandis (talkcontribs)

Niceville Notability edit

just wondering how a person who works for the news which is a standard job that I know at least 15 other people who graduated NHS personally with the same jobs... How that person is notable. and how a guy who's success was based on a fluke marriage is notable but when the largest band out of the area. even panhandle area gets mentioned by someone. its thought of as not note worthy. last time I check the requirements on the page were that they had major press articles about them with references. and These Words Are Water and the members have that. there isn't a single other band in the area thats gone anywhere near they're achievements. especially in comparison to their drummer who has his own record label with cd's sold in the mainstreem. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.101.6.177 (talk) 09:18, 15 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Redirect of Oasis Entertainment (Record Label) edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Oasis Entertainment (Record Label), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Oasis Entertainment (Record Label) is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Oasis Entertainment (Record Label), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Forgotten Sunrise edit

Wikipedia:Notability (music), point 1st: "It has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent from the musician/ensemble itself and reliable." - Metal Observer and D.L.K. has been added to external links; point 5st: "Has released two or more albums on a major label or one of the more important indie labels (i.e. an independent label with a history of more than a few years and a roster of performers, many of which are notable)" - look at: [1], there are some enough for Wikipedia standards notable bands, and there: new album of Forgotten Sunrise, "willand". Producer's page deleted by you. Why? edit

Hello there. I've been trying to keep Jizza Pro's article for the last couple of days up and running, but it is really hard having you putting SpeedyDel tag on it each and everytime you are passing by (I am new to this so didn't see your remarks till today about removing the tags). Could you please explain the reason of doing it? Jizza Pro and his achievements are very wellknown in Azerbaijan and Russia as well. There is an article about one of the artists from Azerbaijan since 2006 in eng WIKI and the only thing that can authorize the person (as to WIKI rules) is the website with the artist's mp3s which is not functioning anyways. In addition to that, there is an article of Jizza Pro on russian wikipedia, so what are your reasons for deleting an article on English wikipedia? I guess that wikipedia itself is a sort of world encyclopaedia and it doesn't mean that English wikipedia has to contain only British, Canadian and American acts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eamonspellman (talkcontribs) 13:54, 17 October 2007 (UTC) Eamonspellman 12:11, 18 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Anon is right, Id like to hear your reasoning for this as well. It seems youre a little trigger happy, and it might be a matter to take up with an admin. Texasfirebrand 21:48, 5 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
"anon" is Eamonspellman, if you actually read it. my reasoning for re-adding the tag is, as the user admitted above, that he unwittingly removed it without realising he should not have. my reasoning for speedying the article was that there were no sources and no assertion of notability per WP:BAND, which is the very definition of a CSD-able article. as to the issue of nationality and bands, of course we don't limit the English wiki to only bands from the UK, US and Canada, but on the other hand, bands of other nationalities still need verifiable 3rd party sources same as the ones from the UK, US and Canada, which this did not.
and Texasfirebrand: your WP:POINT-making in trying to delete a legitimate album category apparently on a whim and in trying to canvas people to "vote" on a band up for AfD because of the name on the nomination is childish in the extreme. tomasz. 11:59, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Video album dab edit

If we are to treat the video albums as albums, I'd say the album naming conventions at WP:ALBUM#Naming should apply, which means disambiguating using "album", not "DVD". --PEJL 21:52, 20 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Also, please use {{Infobox Album}} (with type "video") directly, instead of using {{Infobox music DVD}}, as the latter is deprecated. --PEJL 21:55, 20 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Moving them again sounds fine. Thanks! --PEJL 21:58, 20 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Also, "Director" is now a valid album infobox field (but only for video albums). --PEJL 23:42, 20 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
A minor followup to this. In the end we decided video albums these should be disambiguated using "video". --PEJL 12:19, 8 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Regarding COB's 6th album edit

LEave the page alone! All of the facts are truthful, from a reliable source, and the album is even listed on Spinefarm Record's website. LEt the page be, so that when the album is released, we won't have to create it again for the 3rd time.

What makes it a crystal ball? If that's the case, then the page for Slayer's and Cannibal Corpses' upcoming album (which, ahem, have essentially the exact same info, and have been left alone "to" modify) should be nominated as well. Of course, that's an absurd thing to propose, becuz they'll need to be left alone in order to be improved! My point being, check the references and leave the page alone. It is definetely not a crystal ball if we have some concrete facts! Dark Executioner 14:40, 31 October 2007 (UTC)Dark ExecutionerReply

Tel Aviv Disco Bomb edit

The above mentioned band is just as credible as any signed, album-producing band, of which there are countless bands of that type among the Wikipedia universe. I wasnt finished creating that page, or talking about the band's significance in the burgeoning Boston music scene. Im bringing the page back online, and will complete it quickly. Please discuss any concerns you may have for the entry on its talk page before arbitrarily deleting it. Texasfirebrand 21:39, 5 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

i didn't arbitrarily delete anything, i nominated the article based on its lack of assertion of the band's notability and evidently an administrator agreed with this (i am not an administrator and therefore don't have the power to delete anything). if you bring the page back, remember to include verifiable third-party sources that confirm the band's notability or else someone else will undoubtedly follow process and tag it for deletion as i did. tomasz. 01:11, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
As I stated, the page was not complete. I know you arent an administrator. Im fairly new to wikipedia, and the only thing I did wrong was not completing the page in sandbox before deployment. You could have been responsible and friendly by sending me a message about the need for additional information. I see this is something of a pattern for you. Your carelessness is to the detriment of Wikipedia itself. Texasfirebrand 02:37, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
"something of a pattern with me" of nominating band pages that don't assert why the band is significant for deletion? sure, i'll cop to that, although i'm actually not careless about it. you didn't have to complete the page in your sandbox for it to stay, just adding any slightest inkling that said why the band was significant would have done. otherwise, as i said, it would have been another editor that tagged it and whose work you would now be trying to smear. tomasz. 10:38, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
also note that: (a) anyone can contest a speedy deletion at any time with the {{hangon}} tag; (b) you were sent a message about the need for additional information, namely the AfD notification on your talk page; (c) if this is anything to go on, this article will clearly just be deleted again if recreated. any references from reputable sites all refer to the bombing of an actual disco in Tel Aviv, not a Boston post-rock ensemble. tomasz. 16:40, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Familjen edit

Dear W guice, thank you for helping me with my article on Familjen by placing a notability-tag the day after it was created. It is always nice to get some encouragement when you start a new article or stub. The article, in the stage you tagged it, was by no means a finished article, but rather a stub primarily based on a translation of the Swedish article. It did, however, already have a link to an article in Dagens Nyheter, Sweden's biggest national newspaper, and a quick Google-search would have provided you with plenty of other articles if you were missing multiple sources (a couple of wich I now have added). I think it would have been courteous of you to have posted a message on my talk page, but perhaps you have been busy slapping notability tags on newly created articles. I have now added more sources and information on the at least three notable labels he has appeared on (information also easily found through a quick Google-search), hence I have removed the notabilty tag. Thankfully, Sebisthlm 15:31, 15 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the quick response! So, you got the incredibly subtle sarcasm. Well, you can't be too sure people will get it (I'm currently in Holland, a nation genetically immune to irony). I agree it was a bit obvious, but I can assure you I'm not as angry as I may have come across. My point was just that the lack of sourced notability (if DN wasn't enough) could have been amended as easily as placing the tag and would perhaps also have been more constructive. And a message on my talkpage would have been nice. No hard feelings. And thanks for the phrase "knickers in a not" (this time I mean it). Sebisthlm 16:18, 15 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Not a problem. :) I like making little edits like the ones needed there when I'm bored. But it can get monotonous in repetition. But I'll do my best to fix at least a few articles there every day or do. I just wish I was more well-versed in the albums it lists, so I could actually add some content. I know how frustrating it is to want more information on something, only to find that Wiki knows nothing of it except for the track listing. Thanks for uploading Image:SPMexicanNeverChange.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 17:06, 29 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:BlackHeart1.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:BlackHeart1.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 20:19, 30 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:MBRedRocks.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:MBRedRocks.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Thank you.--Rockfang (talk) 05:00, 28 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

false dichotomy. we are not at "war". you are vandalising and i am fixing. when you stop, i will no longer need to revert. tomasz. 18:32, 30 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have blocked the above user for violation of the 3RR with vandalistic intent. I'm not going to block you, since as far as I'm concerned you were reverting vandalism, which is an exception to the three revert rule, but I suggest next time that you not do all the reversions yourself, as other admins may not see it the same way that I do. Other users can do the reverting while allowing you to keep your head above the muck after two reverts. There's always admins and other users about; no sense in getting yourself blocked for doing the right thing. Cheers, CP 18:50, 30 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have tagged Image:HPAnotherDay.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free. Thank you. The change is explained in the bio's page, based on the Catalan WP bio page. There was only one source speaking about appearances, in fact just speculations now proved to be false, so I added 5 relevant sources citing autopsy, denying previous gossips. VP should not take credit to gossips. If you do not feel like reverting your changes [2], please discuss it. fair enough, although an explanation on the Deaths in... article's talk page would probably also have prevented confusion. two of the sources that disprove the false cause of death should be ok. cheers, tomasz. 15:54, 15 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

On VfD for Tuvalu (band) edit

"Incidentally, 'this band is notable but i can't be bothered explaining why because i don't like your stance" is not a particularly convincing argument for "your position", if you indeed do have one.' No, I meant that the band is notable but you don't seem to think that they are, because you don't, for example, seem to understand the sources that are in the article now. I don't know WHAT should be written about the band - they have played live gigs, released two albums that have been reviewed by major music magazines and newspapers in Finland. What else is there to ask? I don't know what should be added in the article to match these notability criteria. Somebody else might know, however, and that's why instead of deleting articles outright, you might consider using templates such as this in the future.--Wormsie (talk) 18:25, 23 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Tuvalu (band) edit

Hi. I just noticed that there was an afd on the foregoing, and I was shocked that it made it. Unfortunatly, it wasn't in my watchlist so I didn't notice the afd. The article in no way establishes the notability of the band. Whether the refs are in Finnish or not doesn't make a difference, the article still has establish why the band is notable. Moreover, looking at the "refs" it doesn't look like they are legit per WP:RS, they look like private websites or blogs. I plan on dragging it back to afd in a couple of months, so keep it on your watchlist. Best, --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 12:55, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Jackie Orszaczky edit

Hey - I saw your comment about this person and I have to say, the way Australians look at these things and the way American or British do is very different. Once someone's an Aussie, that's it. I know other countries love to pretend there is something different about someone born overseas or descended from foreigners, but in Australia, where a quarter of the population is born somewhere else, we don't. 'Orszaczky' is as an 'Australian' a name as 'Mick O'Malley'. I was taken aback at your suggesting otherwise.Be best (talk) 22:09, 4 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

"if i asked someone the country they associate with "O'Malley", they would not necessarily cite Australia as first choice." Then I think that just indicates a lack of knowledge about how diverse Australia is (not to mention the very strong Irish descended presence here.) If the place of birth of a notable Australian person is so important, then I suggest 'xxxx-born Australian' is the least offensive way of describing it.Be best (talk) 00:33, 5 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

speedy edit

You can not delete albums by speedy for lack of notability -- you must use prod or afd. See WP:CSD A7DGG (talk) 13:13, 10 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

please cite what you think is the rule. As I read it CSD A7 says: "An article about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant. This is distinct from questions of notability, verifiability and reliability of sources. A7 applies only to articles about web content or articles on people and organizations themselves, not articles on their books, albums, software and so on. Other article types are not eligible for deletion by this criterion. If controversial, as with schools, list the article at Articles for deletion instead." DGG (talk) 13:18, 10 February 2008 (UTC)"Reply
Why not propose it as a new speedy criterion so it can be discussed? It's not my subject, and the people who are concerned might think it a good idea. I can see how it might make sense, but I'm no expert. But it has certainly been accepted widely that a book can be notable even if the author isn't--that a single barely notable book is not sufficient, though a very notable one might be. I dont know how it would be with music--that's your field, so why not discuss it. I have not the least objection to new good clean criteria for speedy that are widely accepted. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Some examples can be found at Wikipedia:Use rationale examples.
