TV Logos edit

I totally agree with the question you posed on AMIB's talk page. I have tried that myself, only to have them deleted. It seems like they are throwing any reason they can think of as to why these shouldn't be up. So far I have gotten, WP:FUC #3 and #8, "Fair-Use", "a legal issue", "unsourced commentary", "not discussed in the article", "no reference", it's "decorative", "meaningful commentary", "reliable source" (though AMIB admits he knows of no place to find a source), "violation of two of Wikipedia's foundations", and "the right thing to do" as reasons given why these logos should not be up...each time, a different reason. Most of these they know people either aren't going to be able to find or just aren't going to look for. Especially for video of a logo from the 60's or something. I am goign through on most of the images AMIB deletes and saving them, so, maybe, they can be readded at a later date. - SVRTVDude 23:00, 30 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Would be glad to. If we can keep the "non" fair-use images, that would make me happy and would be a good happy medium:) - SVRTVDude 21:14, 31 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Please see my reply here. DHowell 21:33, 31 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
I don't care that much if you get rid of the logo galleries (I know what's going on with them), but if you do, at least do it without adding smart, witty comments to the edit summary. Ntropolis 21:36, 31 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Also, I have tried to add the rationale or whatever I'm supposed to do and I can't seem to find the thing to make it legal. Trust me when I say that I have permission from the stations. I have permission from 41 NBC and 13 WMAZ. SO QUIT STALKING EVERYTHING THAT I DO!!!!!!!!!!!! Chrismaster1 17:53, 1 August 2007
Even if you have permission, if the logos you uploaded don't have proper fair-use rationale, they are not allowed to be used on Wikipedia. Hundreds of images every day are being deleted from Wikipedia because people think that only a boilerplate copyright tag is required, but you need that and fair-use rationale. Just like what it says on the tags themself, they are useless without rationale. The easiest way to put rationale on your images, especially for TV logos, is to just modify the fair-use table I used on the images that I cite. It's not that hard, you just have to remember to do it. I don't know why Wikipedia can't allow you to do it automatically, I'm going to look into that. But, I'm amazed that I got such a fast response :)

Moral of the Story: Even if you have "permission" to use a copyrighted image on Wikipedia, you need to give it the proper tags and rationale like every other logo. ViperSnake151 21:58, 1 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please do look into it and please ask the people at Wikipedia to put the rationale in automatically cause I did not know about the rationale thingy and stuff. Will it just be easier to send the images to you and then let you put the images in and stuff? Chrismaster1 18:21, 1 August 2007
I could use your help with this thing, I uploaded an image to the WB Television Network and I was able to get the format thing for the fair use rationale and now something went wrong because the Fair Use Rationale box is not coming up. I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chrismaster1 14:52, 10 August 2007

I noticed you added a new newscast intro for WCVB. I do not remember seeing that one and it does not mention HD at all. The one that I saw on the air is also featured on WCVB's website, http://www.thebostonchannel.com/wcvb-hd/index.html . Samuel 03:09, 15 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Actually, the HIG[HD]EFINITION thing and the slide pictured come up BEFORE the News Center 5 logo. ViperSnake151 16:20, 15 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image:NBC 4.png edit

Hello ViperSnake151, an automated process has found an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, such as fair use. The image (Image:NBC 4.png) was found at the following location: User:ViperSnake151/Infoboxes. This image or media will be removed per statement number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media will be replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. The image that was replaced will not be automatically deleted, but it could be deleted at a later date. Articles using the same image should not be affected by my edits. I ask you to please not readd the image to your userpage and could consider finding a replacement image licensed under either the Creative Commons or GFDL license or released to the public domain. Thanks for your attention and cooperation. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 01:53, 17 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with Image:256_sugimori.png edit

Thanks for uploading Image:256_sugimori.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Newschannel5 2007.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Newschannel5 2007.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 08:07, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:EWNKYW2005.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:EWNKYW2005.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BigrTex 19:07, 22 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Kyw_tv_hdtv.jpg edit

How is that not the offical logo? It is on KYW's homepage. All of the other television station articles have an up to date logo. Strafidlo 02:18, 21 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sure, it's on the website, but it's not the one used on air! The one used on air is just the CBS3 logo with no "HDTV" below it. ViperSnake151 02:56, 21 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:3wear.png edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:3wear.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

Image:Wabc_hdl3_1.jpg edit

I have tagged Image:Wabc_hdl3_1.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. ElinorD (talk) 10:51, 28 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

rationale edit

I didn't know that I had to use the template. Thanks for clarifying though.--milk the cows (Talk) 01:24, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Okay, you don't have to EXACTLY use the template I provided, although I prefer it (and it makes it look more professional), I've seen other people use different "fair use templates", but the most common one lately is the table. Once you put in the cited images, don't forget to remove the deletion notices from the pages they are used on! ViperSnake151 01:26, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well, I added the template. And I put something in the discussion page of KBJR-TV about the redirect. If you look at Indiana's NewsCenter (also owned by Granite Broadcasting), there was a similar discussion about the redirect.--milk the cows (Talk) 01:43, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
