Editing the Vanessa Angel article

edit

In response to this comment left at my talk page:

I hope you can help. I am Vanessa Angel and I have noticed new edits to my page that are incorrect. I have tried to change them but not being a wikipedia user, I find it very confusing and complicated. My birthdate is nov 10th 1966, which was previously posted and now has been changed using an incorrect web site source. The correct date is on the imdb.com and every other site on the web, as well as knowing when I was born! It is frustrating, as a lot of people use this site. My parents names were also wrong and I do not want that info on there and I was wrongly name a vegan. Please can you help me edit the corrections, I am lost as to how to go about it properly!
Best,

First, even though you may claim to be Angel, there's no way for us Wikipedia users and administrators to verify that information. (What's to stop another user from making an invalid claim of being Angel? How could we tell the difference?) You could send email to the volunteer response team, who may be able to corroborate your identity. WP:Autobiographies has some instructions also, including a section on what to do when there are errors in an article about you.

Regarding the birthdate, remember that verifiability is the key. Given the choice between a published source and a first-hand/word-of-mouth one, Wikipedia generally prefers the published one. When sources conflict, the relative reliability of the sources is taken into account. IMDB is generally not considered reliable, so you may need to provide links to other sources to support the change.

Regarding the parents' names, again, it's an issue of verifiability/reliability. The names are sourced; that's why I restored them to the article.

Regarding the assertion of veganism, that was not sourced in the article, so I have pulled it from the article, as directed by the verifiability guidelines.

I'd suggest reading the guidelines on autobiographies. That should have some good information on what to do next. —C.Fred (talk) 06:42, 2 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

The names are sourced but not reliably! See Talk:Vanessa Angel#Filmreference.com and date of birth. I'm not sure whether FilmReference.com is correct, but I think it's not reliable. I've removed the date of birth and parents' names that were relying on that source. —C.Fred (talk) 06:50, 2 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
