RE: Memphis May Fire

edit

Alright... Well do you have any idea why several sources claim that his last name is actually Ryan? Is that like a nickname or something? Fezmar9 (talk) 00:17, 10 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

My edits, as disruptive and as inaccurate as you may believe they were, were following Wikipedia's policy on verification. A quick google search for "Memphis May Fire" "Chase Ryan" turns up 9,000+ results whereas "Memphis May Fire" "Chase Robbins" only turns up 20 results. Despite whatever his real name may be, listing him as Robbins here could be confusing for readers, since he seems to be more widely known as Ryan. I changed the article to reflect both his commonly accepted name according to sources, and what you are telling me is his real name, so he is now listed as Chase "Ryan" Robbins. I hope you can find this to be a fair compromise! Thanks :) Fezmar9 (talk) 21:20, 15 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

His real name is Chase Robbins. He called himself Ryan due to personal issues, but his real last name is Robbins. People who are fixing these items are Jeremy,Tanner from the original Memphis May Fire. We appreciate you creating this page but our "fixes" are accurate. I promise it's not "confusing" fans because only until he started going on tour and being noticed did he start using the name Ryan. I'm not asking for a compromise I'm asking you to leave things alone that we change because since we were in the band, I promise, we know a little bit more than you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vanessaoakes (talkcontribs)
Yea, I kind of figured that whoever was editing the article was probably a member of the band. I was certainly not questioning your knowledge of the band, only enforcing basic Wikipedia policies. From Wikipedia's policy on verification: "The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth—that is, whether readers are able to check that material added to Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source, not whether we think it is true." Essentially, Wikipedia is just a reflection of what third-party sources claim. I was merely editing the article based on what an abundance of sources stated. From Wikipedia's policy on original research and citing oneself: "This policy does not prohibit editors with specialist knowledge from adding their knowledge to Wikipedia, but it does prohibit them from drawing on their personal knowledge without citing reliable sources. If an editor has published the results of his or her research in a reliable publication, the editor may cite that source while writing in the third person and complying with our neutrality policy. See also Wikipedia's guidelines on conflict of interest." I notice you also added a little bit more regarding Memphis May Fire's inception. It would be great if you could get in touch with any current member of the band, and have them get that on record in an interview. Or just something that is not related to social networking like a Myspace blog. They can even form their response as "some faggot on Wikipedia won't let Jeremy or Tanner add this, so here we go..." I don't really care, as long as there is a source in the end. If such an interview does become available, let me know and I can properly format the citation. Memphis May Fire only barely meets the notability guidelines of inclusion for a group or band. So to avoid deletion, these annoying policies need to be followed precisely. ALSO, I do not know how familiar you are with allmusic, but they are a huge source of information for music websites. Rolling Stone, Billboard and MTV derive a lot of their information from it. Some websites that are too lazy to write a band bio just copy and paste from allmusic. When you copy a CD to your computer and the information is already entered for you, that information comes from allmusic. The Memphis May Fire allmusic page lists Chase as "Ryan" in the bio. You may want to click the "Corrections to the entry" button and submit a correction. I can tell you from experience that ONE message will be overlooked.
