Welcome to Wikipedia!

Heya URBILD! Welcome to Wikipedia! There's a thing that people post here that gives you useful links and an official greeting but... I don't know how to do that. Maybe WillMCW or Falphin will come along with their Mic-tiara-equivalent and greet you properly. Until then, let me just inform you (as I was informed by WillMCW) that the term "vandalism" has a specific meaning on Wikipedia - it refers to things like 12 year old kids writing that Britney Spears is a "famous singer and dildo" - that kind of thing - and it shouldn't be used in the context of an edit war. I was making that mistake for a while, myself. Also, be aware of the 3RR (three revert rule): if you make a fourth revert to an article in 24 hours, you'll be banned. Good-faith efforts to reach a consensus don't, of course, count. Anyway, cheers, and I hope you decide to stick around and edit other articles, because this is a fantastic project. Try looking up something you're personally interested in and seeing if you have valuable information to add: it can really be very rewarding, knowing you're contributing to what will be one of the most authoritative (and easily found) pieces of information on the subject. --Hyperbole 06:52, 24 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

  • Hello Hyperbole,

Thank you for the welcome and advice. Urbie 17:27, 24 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Your user page

edit

Oh, and you might want to write something (anything) in your user page User:Urbie so the link won't show up red. You look like far less of a newbie if you've got something up there. A lot of people just write the names of the articles they're working on/monitoring. Cheers! --Hyperbole 06:52, 24 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

3RR

Please refrain from undoing other people's edits repeatedly. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia under the three-revert rule, which states that nobody may revert a single page more than three times in 24 hours. (Note: this also means editing the page to reinsert an old edit. If the effect of your actions is to revert back, it qualifies as a revert.) Thank you. -Will Beback 04:03, 24 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

--Hi Will,

I don't think I am guilty of doing so. I made more than three edits today, but they were not all reverts.

Thanks.
