Welcome!

Hello, Updates2010, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, your edit to Shane Company does not conform to Wikipedia's Neutral Point of View policy (NPOV). Wikipedia articles should refer only to facts and interpretations that have been stated in print or on reputable websites or other forms of media.

There's a page about the NPOV policy that has tips on how to effectively write about disparate points of view without compromising the NPOV status of the article as a whole. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Shane Company. While objective prose about beliefs, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. Please use edit summaries, make one change at a time, and discuss major changes at Talk:Shane Company. tedder (talk) 17:57, 22 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add soapboxing, promotional or advertising material to Wikipedia, as you did at Shane Company, you may be blocked from editing. tedder (talk) 18:28, 22 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Tedder, as you know I am new to Wikipedia and am attempting to update the Shane Co. Wikipedia page to fix factual inaccuracies, and to add a more complete history of the company itself. As this is my first real attempt at an update, I am trying to learn as I go rather than cause a disruption in your day-to-day operations. If that is how it has come across thus far, I apologize.

Based on your original comment I deleted quite a few words which upon further review could be considered non-neutral. I deleted terms such as "hand-selected," because based on your suggestions I felt that was the heart of the matter.

For your most recent set of edits you mentioned that I was attempting to add promotional material to Wikipedia. After taking another look at the text I assumed that you must mean the paragraphs of "Lifetime Warranty," and "Money-back Guarantee." I deleted those portions but frankly, they are core principles of the company, much in the same way that "Don't be evil" is the unofficial slogan at Google.

Again, I'm trying to edit this page to conform to the Wikipedia standards, but your vague suggestions, and threatening to ban me from making edits makes it a little difficult to get it right. Is it possible to point to actual passages, words, or paragraphs that don't conform to your policies?

Thanks very much for your time, I look forward to your response as it is critical to the successful edit of this Wikipedia page.(Updates2010 (talk) 20:03, 22 April 2011 (UTC)).Reply

Hi. The problem is that you are inserting external links into the body of the article and using things like ShaneCo's facebook page as references. These are not reliable sources. Please discuss this further at Talk:Shane Company instead of here (I don't follow your page). The vague threats are part of the templates that I use; it's hard to hand-write to every user who may or may not read the comments.
As far as improvements- you just changed the lead paragraph of the article. It doesn't need a ==section== header, removing the links and using unreliable sources is bad, and you removed two reliable sources that establish facts in that paragraph. tedder (talk) 22:37, 25 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
..secondly, I can't tell what language you are trying to refine in your edit. You removed "Shane Company", made the shaneco website more prominent, what else, and why? Make sure to see WP:COI and WP:NPOV. tedder (talk) 22:39, 25 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
