User talk:UBX/RC
Color scheme
editThe color scheme should probably be kept in line with the liturgical season. We'll see. --Elliskev 02:39, 17 November 2005 (UTC) Proposed colors:
- Left side background always #FFFFFF (white)
- Right side (around the RC) and the border
- Ordinary time (green): #00EE00
- Lent/Advent (purple/violet) #CC00FF0
- Christmas/Easter (white with gold border) #FFFFFF/#FFFF00
Naming and format
editI had attempted to make a user box for a different purpose, but haven't quite gotten around to finishing it. But it seems that there are some programming things that will be helpful:
- rename the template "Template:User rc" and you can use the shortcut "rc" in the automated babel boxes. See example Template:Babel-4.
- even for proper names, the standard abreviation both in the template name and in the square part of the user box is lower case.

- Thanks for the suggestions. I moved it to Template:User rc and fixed all the links. Re: the abbreviation, I see that there are alot that do use capitals, e.g. IP. --Elliskev 15:31, 17 November 2005 (UTC)
Other template
editPlease don't just get rid of this one. Other people use it. If there's a consensus that it's deprecated, fine. But you shouldn't just proclaim that it is. --Elliskev 02:53, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
Mods to the color scheme?
editCan we come up with a revised color scheme, such that only the color around "RC" changes, while the background color for the text stays the same? I think it would look better. Also, how about a full list on the top of this talk page of all the colors/codes for the liturgical seasons? — Eoghanacht talk 14:40, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
- Sounds good to me. --Elliskev 16:35, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
image or "rc"
editThere was a recent change from the simple "RC" to a monstrance. While some may like the image, the point of the letters was to mimic the "bable" style of userbox. If we are going to use an image here, then I see little point for this template at all, considering there are other templates with pictures ({{User:UBX/Catholic}} and {{User:Rfrisbie/Userbox/Religion|roman catholic}}
). — Eoghanacht talk 14:59, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
Fair use
edit
You're right, Doc, I misspoke; the original image was public domain, and it was replaced by a fair use one at some point, so rather than replacing it with text, just reverting to the original image works. I love "third options". -Silence 17:24, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
Is right floating necessary?
editIs right alignment in this template necessary? It actually clashes with the Babel template, which has right alignment, and is more commonly used. Perhaps we need to change it to float:left, to keep it from clashing with other templates.
Drinibot
editDrini (talk · contribs) via Drinibot (talk · contribs) is going through and changing {{User rc}} to HTML that on first glance looks the same, but removes the user from the Category:Roman Catholic Wikipedians. He has also removed the category from this template, which I have reverted. There is no policy against these categories, has Drini admits on his own Talk page. — Linnwood 08:28, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- wikipolicy is descriptive, not proscriptive. -- Drini 19:23, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
Reprotected
edit"Protected Template:User rc: to prevent reinsertion of user networking by belief system (category)"
Categories are not to be used to turn Wikipedia into myspace. --Tony Sidaway 01:28, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- I am not against your action, but I just curious which policy is against using categories in userboxes? --Hunter 02:17, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
Catholicism
editHi: am I no longer able to have, on my user page, a userbox saying I am interested in Roman Catholicism? Mine has changed to a link to your userpage, which persists if I re-insert {{User rc}}. Why is this ?--Anthony.bradbury 18:46, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Anthony.bradbury. Yes, you can. Because of all the "hard redirects" to Template:user rc, I made it a "soft redirect" to here so folks could make their own choices about how to change it. Check the RC template page for some alternatives. Rfrisbietalk 21:54, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
