Biography edit

Carole D'Andrea grew up on Pearl Street near 18th Street in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Carole is the daughter of the late Pat and Jessie D'Andrea. At the age of 4, she was enrolled at the Ruth Barnes School of Dancing, where she received calssical ballet training. Learning Tap dancing at age 12 Miss D'Andrea soon decided she wanted to be a perfomer. Tragically, at the age of 17, one month before her high school graduation, her parents were killed in a car accident in May of 1955. Within the year the 18 year old had a high paying job at the Copacabana nightclub. At the time it was the hottest entertainment spot in New York, regularly featuring such stars as Frank Sinatra, Jerry Lewis and Jimmy Durante. Miss D'Andrea was considered a "world-famous Copa girl". In 1957, just before leaving on a tour with the "Copa girls" Carole auditioned for the role of "Velma" in "West Side Story", beating out 900 other dancers. Director Jewrome Robbins told Carole that she was exactly what he was looking for, she was much smaller than many of the other dancers and was the only one that already had Broadway experience, having performed in "Gypsy" starring Ethel Merman. Three months after finishing "West Side Story" Carole married Robert Morse, already famous for having starred in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying"
