Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because your account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  • Provide a new username.

To do this, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. 331dot (talk) 08:19, 20 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

we are a non-profit organisation and promote the planting of trees in Ireland. I don't understand the why we are blocked from editing our page as only minor edits were made. Please check our website for verification Tree Council (talk) 08:29, 20 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

Shared accounts are not permitted. And you show no understanding of WP:COI and do count as a WP:PAID editor. That said, I don't think your contributions were particularly a violation of WP:PROMO and so an unblock is possible once you demonstrate you understand the problems. If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Please see the notice above, as well as the policies linked to therein. Wikipedia treats non-profits no differently than for-profits. Part of the problem is your username, and you will need to propose a new one as instructed. 331dot (talk) 08:32, 20 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

Tree Council user name violates the rules as it gives the wrong impression of the account. So requesting that the user name be changed to treeadmin. My contributions are minor edits to the page to give current information on our charity, eg change of trustees and change of operations. I do not wish to have a shared account and understand that it is not permitted. I am not paid to make any edits to the page. Changes are made to keep it updated.

Decline reason:

OK, that's a step in the right direction, but not far enough. "Admin" refers to a position of greater user rights here at Wikipedia, and as such we do not allow it in usernames (not even for users like myself who have those rights) because of the confusion it could create. So, try something else. And also consider our conflict of interest policy (short and long versions) and how that will affect your editing if unblocked. — Daniel Case (talk) 06:34, 21 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

I understand the reason not include admin in the user name. As to conflict of interest, my contributions will only concern corrections to the tree council page to inform people of changes to our organisation, eg when we elect a new trustee or organise a new tree planting event. They are generally minor edits. We work hand in hand with other organisations that promote tree planting in Ireland and look to solidify these connections and create others. I will not be promoting myself or anyone connected to me or my opinions on this or any other page. It is purely informative concerning the working of the tree council and its planting objectives. Your proposed username is a big improvement, but unfortunately is taken, please pick another. However, you should not be editing the article directly, and instead should be making edit requests on the article talk page. Once you agree to use edit requests and not edit the article directly, I am confident that an unblock should be arranged. PhilKnight (talk) 15:00, 21 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

I have checked and this user name is available. And I will use the edit requests on the article talk page as instructed when making edits. Tree Council (talk) 15:38, 21 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

I have renamed you and will remove the block. 331dot (talk) 15:55, 21 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please place new posts at the bottom; this may easier to do by opening the edit window directly by clicking "edit" at the top of the screen or in the section header, instead of using the Reply function(which still needs refinement, it does not accomodate unblock requests well). I will start to rename you and remove the block. One moment 331dot (talk) 15:54, 21 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
