Impeachment

edit

Hi, regarding the image caption for Impeachment regarding Donald Trump, AFAIK "distinction" seems to imply "an unusual achievement or feature". But English is not my first language, so if I am wrong please correct me. Thanks, and I wish you a good stay at Wikipedia! (you do know quite a lot about WP, don't you?) Hey there! Thanks for taking the time to reach out instead of re-reverting. Apologies if I've come off as uptight in my edit, but I think this just stems from the contradictory nature of most English words. For example, the word "exceptional" has no inherent positive connotation, it is only through its use as a way to describe things worthy of praise that it has, (at least in common American parlance) essentially taken on that meaning. Just as something can be exceptional for its quality, it can be exceptional for its poor quality. Distinction is used in a similar way; in that something is "distinct" in its quality and whatnot. However, with regards to the definitions that reliable sources have; it seems as if you might be mistaken. Take this definition from Merriam-Webster, or this definition from the Cambridge Dictionary. Both of these list a definition with no positive connotations first, followed by the one I believe you interpreted it to have. Regardless, if you still think it is inappropriate in the article I'd be more than happy with some other, more neutral wording for it. Again, apologies for the English lesson. I hope I haven't bored you! :) TorpedoFahrt (talk) 03:44, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
