Dennis Lillee Overs

Thanks for pointing that out Tintin. I completely forgot about 8 ball overs. Just a thought though, wouldn't it be more effective to show the number of balls bowled instead of the overs, given that the Cricinfo source also displays balls not overs?

Dave Nourse

I've changed "innings" to "match" for the 55 Nourse made at the age of 50-odd. The date of birth is less certain. Wisden puts it at 26 Jan 1878 and has done so both now and in the editions that were published at the time Nourse was alive. Wisden tends to change these things if it is convinced it's got them wrong, so I suspect it hasn't yet been convinced. Do we know of any evidence to support either the 1878 or 1879 dates? Moving of "Rohan Jayasekera"

The reason I moved it is that there *is* another Rohan Jayasekera in Wikipedia, namely "Rohan Jayasekera (writer)", who in recent years has in fact been better known than Rohan Jayasekera (cricketer).

I am neither the writer nor the cricketer; although I'm far less well known than either of them, I'm the only Rohan Jayasekera who updates Wikipedia!

My next step will be to turn "Rohan Jayasekera" from a redirect page to a disambiguation page.

BTW your nick may indicate that you're a fan of the Tintin books by Hergé. If so, you may be interested to know that the shark-shaped submarine has now been built in real life (do a web search for "cousteau" and "submarine").

That link was to an article about the start of the American Revolutionary War that was the inspiration of the popular name for Bobby Thomson's famous home run. I don't understand your question on Bill Smyth - I have linked his entry to the town of Maryborough (only half an hour's drive from my home) where he was born (as was Gary Watts the former Victorian - and almost Australian - batsman). Good suggestion to include controversial issues! It's one of those things that I mean to include (a) as I remember to follow them up, (b) I have an authoritative reference, and (c) as I have time and energy. For better or worse I have tended to concentrate on the umpire's first and last games, so have probably missed many important points in between - these will be matters for other contributors to include. Of course, there wouldn't be controversies if players didn't make them so! I'll get onto the entry for Rex Whitehead (who began his Melbourne District umpiring career in the same year as myself) in the next few days, so hold your breath and check that I maintain a NPOV). Udham Singh

Hi, Tintin1107. I just reverted your removal of Category:Indian murderers from the Udham Singh article. That article first came to my attention when another editor told me it was a NPOV minefield and needed to be merged with another article. I merged the two and cleaned up, but it's important to note that I had no prior knowledge of the man before I started editing the article, and I have no stake whatsoever in any potential controversy surrounding the man. However, it seems that the fact that Singh assassinated someone is not in dispute. If this is correct, then the category Category:Indian murderers would seem to fit. "Assassin" is, after all, defined as "One who murders by surprise attack, especially one who carries out a plot to kill a prominent person."[1] Again, I have no stake in this, and I'm not trying to paint a freedom fighter as a murdererer, but this seems clear cut. — BrianSmithson 20:16, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

While assassins and murders are both killers, I think we use it different contexts. Going by the wikipedia definition, assassination has come to mean the killing of an important person. An assassin — one who carries out the assassination — is usually ideologically- or politically-motivated reasons., whereas murder is the killing of an ordinary person without any serious motive. I changed it because 'assassin' seems to fit here but not 'murderer'.

Anyway, I will wait until we agree on this before attempting a revert. I am more concerned at the moment about the validity of the article Deepak Kamboj which seems to be an exact copy of Udham Singh. Tintin Talk 20:41, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

(I moved your comments back here to avoid fragmentating the discussion.) I see your point. In light of the fact that Category:Assassins is already there, I have no problem with axing Category:Indian murderers. He should eventually be sorted into Category:Indian assassins instead, but it's probably of no use to create that category for one guy (and my knowledge of assassinations by Indians is woefully lacking, so I wouldn't know who else would belong there). As for Deepak Kamboj, it does indeed look like someone just cut and pasted the text from Udham Singh (prior to my most recent removal of non-pertinent and POV information). Is that an alias? Thanks for the critique on the talk page — I've inserted the clarifications you requested. But I think you misunderstood my comments on the peer review — I (almost) always do peer reviews before I submit articles for FAC. This is what I did for History of saffron, Saffron, Rabindranath Tagore, and others. I said that "I don't have time" not because I didn't want to do a PR, but instead that I didn't want to do it now.
