Hi there

[1] it seems that hu-wiki uses these images after they asked for and received permission. The permission was granted for "use on wikipedia" however its not on commons, commons only handles free images. Do you know if it needs to be upploaded to en-wiki or whats the procedure? RD-based cats for reqphoto

I've changed all the reqphoto instances you've made back to British Columbia. There's no reason at all to specify things by specific areas - someone from Prince Rupert or Prince George may well have a picture of Burns Lake, someone on holiday from Victoria or Vancouver may have a picture of Anstey-Hunakwa or Trepanier. In a previous effort to "fine tune" reqpphoto I tried out Cariboo or some other area and was instructed that there weren't categories for that, and that as a matter of scale/number it wasn't warranted. And also regional districts are NOT relevant region-descriptors; people don't think in terms of them and the only place that's been using them as a classification system is Wikipedia, in other words Wikipedia has been perpetuting a neologistic classification system - committing WP:Synthesis by using them as if they were region descriptors; they do not apply to federal or provincial parks, or Indian Reserves, or forestry lands, or mines, they have no jurisdiction over schools/school districts etc etc. The regions-as-used-by-real-people are "Cariboo", "Okanagan", "Fraser Valley" (which doesn't mean the FVRD). If you want to create sub-regions for British Columbia much larger regions are way more useful - why would someone from Alberni or Duncan or Vancouver not, maybe, have pictures of something in the Nanaimo Regional District? So the categories could be, if at all: Vancouver Island, Lower Mainland, British Columbia Coast, British Columbia Interior, Northern Interior of British Columbia (I've left the Vancouver and Victoria cats, however). I note that in many cases, including your RD-based cats, the way reqphoto invokes the category name is that the proper usag4e of their names with "the" is not produced by the template; "requested photographs in Lower Mainland" sounds just as bad as "Requested photographs in Cariboo Regional District" - the usage of RD names without the proper "the" preceding them is another aspect of the neologist/synthesis use of the RDs (although in the Cariboo case, "Cariboo" is like "Yukon" technically correct without the "the", likewise Chilcotin). I've currently depopulated six or seven RDs of articles on topics which regional districts have no jurisdiction over and which it is improper to classify them by, given the availability of other region-classifications. Indian Reserves in particular, as well as things like historical steamboats, mines, biographies, especially are inappropriate to classify by the name of a government which has no jurisdiction over them, the same is true of mountain peaks, provincial parks, federal parks and CFBs, organizations which have no relationship to regional district governmance etc etc. Regional districts are governments, but they are not real "regional governments" in the usual sense (they really only extend zoning powers beyond the boundaries of municipalities and have little else in teh way of power; MoF, MoE, EMR etc are way more powerful) and they are NOT regions in the geographic sense; their boundaries apply only to the powers of their jurisdiction, which are very limited, and their use as a classification system should be phased out.Skookum1 (talk) 11:49, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Internment

Dont remove very important phrases in internment article. Gulag and NKVD special camps arent the same. After war NKVD utilised German Nazi konzentrazion lagers for imprisonment of antinazi fighters etc. Mathiasrex (talk) 06:07, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

it does matter that after war Russians utilised German Nazi concentration camps for imprisonment of Polish freedom fighters, treating them not like POW but simply bandits and criminals. Its very important because it can shift chronological frame of internment. Up today majority of international sources states that concentration camps were invented by Brits during Boer war. Famous Polish historian Władysław Konopczyński asses explicite that Russians have found

Figured I'd give you a heads-up on this, as I came across the redlink for Sunshine Valley on the Sumallo River article as i was amending it, and had seen the Nikkei Online pages on Tashme a while ago; the pics on the Nikkei site are Creative Commons licensed, not sure if the text is also. Yo; saw you adding cats to various islands, wanted to let you know I'm on Wikibreak but will be checking in from time to time; been waiting for a reply on the above, as to how to get them started; I'll create the cats and of course it will take quite a while to sort all the articles. I don't know him. I know my graphs are similar, that is because I got the idea from him. I saw he made these graphs for major Canadian cities and I decided to remake them but with improvements and more asthetically pleasing. TehranIran (talk) 22:16, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

image sizes

I have been wondering why you keep deleting image sizes ...you quote WP:MOS "Wikipedia:Manual of Style". But i don't see anywhere that says no pixel sizes in fact i see the opposite.

In articles, if you wish to have a photo beside the text, you should generally use the "thumb" (thumbnail) option available in the image markup. This results in a display 180 pixels wide (140 pixels if the "upright" option is used as well), except for those logged-in users who have set a different default in their user preferences.(as i do!!)

A typical picture can be inserted with a line "Image:...|thumb|..." "File" can be substituted for "Image:" with no change in effect; the choice between the two is purely a matter of editorial preference. Using "thumb" generates a thumbnail, a picture whose size typically differs from that of the original image. Several options can affect a thumbnail's placement and size.

On Wikipedia, most pictures should be displayed so they are between 100 and 400 pixels wide Not just 140 as you have done =. The thumbnail option ("thumb") results in a default width of 180 pixels, although logged-in users can set a different default in their user preferences. A picture may benefit from a size other than the default. The "upright=2.2" option (or "|frameless|upright=2.2" for plain pictures) resizes an image to about 400 pixels wide by default; making the number larger or smaller changes the image size accordingly. An image should generally be no more than 500 pixels tall and 400 pixels wide, so it can be comfortably displayed next to the text on the smallest displays in common use; an image can be wider if it uses the "center" or "none" options to stand alone. The Wide image and Tall image templates display images that would otherwise be unreasonably wide or tall. Examples where adjusting the size may be appropriate include, but are not limited to, the following:

       * Images with aspect ratios that are extreme or that otherwise distort or obscure the image.
       * Images in which detail is relatively unimportant (for example, a national flag may be easily recognizable even at a small size).
       * Images containing important detail (for example, a map, diagram, or chart may contain important text that would be unreadable at the default size).
       * Images in which a small region is relevant, but cropping to that region would reduce the coherence of the image.
       * Lead images, which should usually be no wider than "upright=1.7" ("300px")
