My brother and I are having a discussion on air bags. I believe that air bags are not really necessary and that govt should not be mandating air bags for all cars because it drives up costs and because if you drive safely and intelligently air bags do not provide any additional safety. Why do I make this statement on safety? Because I cite that race cars do not have air bags. They drive in speeds in excess of 200-250 MPH, and yet there is no high rate of injuries or death. These cars are also built for speed with light weight material and little protection on the outside. Do you think consumer should be given an option to opt out of air bags, and whether air bags decrease risk for the safe, intelligent drivers on the road? Thank you.
