Speedy deletion nomination of Lump Ball

edit

Please refrain from introducing inappropriate pages, such as Lump Ball, to Wikipedia. Doing so is not in accordance with our policies. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Lump ball

edit

I noticed your comment on User:Nyttend's talk page. Let me fill you in about the unsuitablity of the topic. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, which means that it only includes notable topics and summarized material from third-party reliable sources. "Lump ball" does not appear to be the topic of any book, news article, magazine, or website. It's not become notable by having been taken note of by a third party that reports on it. Since Wikipedia requires verfiability, obviously there have to be sources. They cannot be first-person sources, so your credentials or lack thereof have no bearing on the matter. Yworo (talk) 22:34, 6 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the delay; I'm a grad student, and Monday is perhaps my busiest day of the week. As Yworo said, lump ball doesn't really seem to fit our standards for what articles should be, since it appears to be something that was just recently made up. I presumed that it was a hoax because the article said that it took place in a country called "Alphaland"; since there is no such country, I had no reason to believe that it wasn't all a joke. Given your explanation, I can understand that it's set in such a place; however, for the reasons that Yworo has already given, this doesn't appear to be a suitable article topic. Finally, please understand that some of what you said in your email and on your note at my talk page actually indicates that this really shouldn't be kept as an article; if I understand you rightly, you're asking me to undelete the article because its presence would serve a good cause. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a webhost; if it's so essential to have this information online, there are plenty of other places on the Internet that will serve as webhosts for free.
