edit

Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to List of current world boxing champions, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear to be constructive and has been reverted. If you only meant to make a test edit, please use the sandbox for that. Fury has not retired, so he remains lineal champion until they declare Klitschko or Joshua to have inherited it in his absence; Álvarez has also not announced that he won't compete at middleweight again (the Golovkin fight still gets talked about constantly); Pacquiao has been consensus lineal champion after beating Bradley the last time. Greetings, I appreciate the response.. but since you've just partially reverted me, this is turning into a bit of an edit war. That's a shame. I wish you'd given me a chance to finish this message before you did, but oh well.
So: TBRB is a slightly weird one, especially now with two boxers—Fury and Álvarez—not actively fighting in their weight classes, but rather hovering around and giving the impression that they may still return. The TBRB site gets thrown around a lot when citing lineal champions, as does CBZ, but right now it looks like TBRB is going against the grain by removing Fury and Álvarez altogether, even though they are still consensus lineal champions at their weight classes. Granted, Fury hasn't fought in almost two years, but he hasn't officially retired. How can he be stripped of a mythical title which he never lost in the ring? Therefore, I would wait until after the Klitschko–Joshua fight to see if reliable sources declare the winner as new lineal champion.
When it comes to Álvarez—or his team in particular—they have never confirmed that he has left the middleweight division, so again, he can't have lost the lineal title after defending it less than a year ago against Khan. As for Pacquiao, how could he lose a lineal welterweight title that he won only last year? TBRB isn't making it clear what their rationale is. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 01:59, 24 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
Ahh, well see—that's why collaboration and discussion is such a good thing on WP, and I welcome it. Yes, I did mention that things were looking slightly edit-warry, but look what happened—you then kindly pointed me to this, and I'm now much the wiser. That is a fascinating read, so I'll have a long look at it for sure. And, at no point did I say my words were a claim to authority on WP, but it was an invitation to provide something in the way of cites, which you did, and I appreciate that. I'll leave it for now, but I will starting looking around for sources whenever those three guys fight next—hopefully with clarification on the lineal statuses, outside of just TBRB.
