Closing AN/I
editI saw you mentioned you would close a thread but didn't know how. This isn't an invitation for you to close that particular thread as discussion is still ongoing, but an F.Y.I.
See Template:Archive top for the templates people use to close discussions there. As you are not an admin you will also want to observe how other closers use Template:NAC.
I would advise you though, to be very careful when closing AN/I discussions. I would suggest you observe how (and which discussions) other non-admins close. I don't want to prescribe any instructions so I don't pass along any misunderstandings I have (and I will link WP:CLOSE even though I think AN/I works a bit differently but again, grain of salt). Personally, I only close short threads where someone reports an obvious problem editor, an admin indefs them, and there's nothing left to discuss. I don't even touch sockpuppet reports in case someone needs to report another one. I hope this helps! GabberFlasted (talk) 18:39, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for that, I'll store that... somewhere. Looks like that the problem with those two isn't going to end, so I won't close the discussion. I like Astatine (Talk to me) 14:45, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- As an administrator, I'm compelled to be involved in ANI discussions. I urge you: PLEASE don't involve yourself in "clerking" ANI. I've seen perfectly reasonable editors getting blocked from ANI because they are clerking discussions. If you want practice in closing procedures, go somewhere safe, like requested moves. ANI's a very bad place for new user to get any experience. Discussion there often can turn on a poor close (or a poor closer). BusterD (talk) 15:09, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
- Ok. I'll find another space to lurk on. Requested moves sounds like a good spot for now. I like Astatine (Talk to me) 15:18, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help on vandalism. Truly. What follows is merely my friendly advice, none of which you're required to heed. When a wikipedian gets into a dispute about content, it's helpful to have some pagespace they've worked on (or even created) which helps demonstrate what they think constitutes good (and not so good) work on Wikipedia. Consider hitting the "random article" button in the upper left section under the logo, and just do some copyediting for a while instead of simply supervising others' edits. You've seen enough pages to have a good sense of common practice. If you'd like help, feel free to call on me. BusterD (talk) 16:10, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
- I'll consider it. Thank you for the complement, I really needed that. Might hop on my Home Page and look through the suggested edits. I like Astatine (Talk to me) 16:19, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
