I am Joseph Diescho's I.T guy. He told me directly he does not want his date of birth to show on his bio Joseph_Diescho. My edit is not a violation of Wikipedia policy. The edit is a minor change to the bio that does not detract from the bio in a substantial way and merely reflects the wishes of the person the bio is about. Either redo my edit or inform me that you will allow me to redo my edit.Thaynecas (talk) 18:38, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
- This isn't something which requires admin intervention. We do not generally modify articles because the subject requests it; wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, and we present an encyclopaedic coverage of topics, not only information the individual wants on the article. Thanks for the reply. The DOB info. is not information that adds substantially to the article. It is only a database convention. If it was strictly required it would not be an editable field: which is what it is. Why do you feel that it is a mandatory field? In effect you are challenging the openness of Wikipedia by insisting that the his DOB is mandatory. The DOB info. is information that my client wants private, in a way similar to the convention that you do not display the his home address. Where you draw the line is a just bit short of where Joseph wants it.
- He approved his information being placed in the Namibia Institute for Democracy's guide to Namibian politics in 2007. That information has been placed on Wikipedia. It is unfortunate that he has changed his mind and, according to WP:DOB, I removed the actual dates, but left the year, per policy.--TM 00:49, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for your help. I gave him the link to leave a message on your talk page. Perhaps you to can talk directly and help him remove his DOB from the Internet DB's you have access to.
