Teethmeister-

My name is Matt Nolan, I'm also an American Actor. I recently appeared in Oscar Winning Best Picture, ARGO. I've been in SAG since 1990. I'm wondering if there's a fair way to create a page for myself, without stepping on the present Matt Nolan page? Whatever wisdom you could impart, would be great. Hi Matt, I would recommend creating a page for yourself which is titled something like Matt Nolan (American actor, Argo) and then link to it from the Matt Nolan disambiguation page, adding the information (born 1970). Remember that your page should be entirely factual and not read like an advert for yourself. Teethmeister (talk) 09:23, 12 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Cymbal manufacturers. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. I can see your point of view, but I don't see how neutral, factual information about my cymbal making business is different to the information presented about any of the other manufacturers on that page. Respectfully, Matt Teethmeister (talk) 11:33, 25 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Managing a conflict of interest

edit

Hello, Teethmeister. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you have an external relationship with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies. Note that Wikipedia's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 09:51, 25 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Please do not write or add to an article about yourself, as you apparently did at Matt Nolan (English cymbal and gong maker). Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was my page deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 10:17, 25 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry if I have caused offence. I thought it would be cleaner to have a separate page about my work as it is not all covered under cymbal manufacture (and also to keep that page more concise, with a link to the full page instead of a paragraph or two locally). I do not believe I have written anything that is not neutral and factual, nor anything any different than already exists on Wikipedia for my contemporaries, whether corporate or individual.   Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button (  or  ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Teethmeister,

I have today read and studied your current article. On first read, I tended to agree that theroadislong had a point and that your article was essentially autobiographical by Wiki standards (even though perhaps you are a "notable" person by normal standards - I am learning newly everyday how those things are DIFFERENT), although I recognized you did a sincere job at trying to remain factual. Upon further study of your references and other info, I changed my mind and now agree that you are a "notable" topic for Wiki (caveat: others may still disagree). I argue anyone who is doing something no one else in England is doing and that it attracts the professional interest of well-known musicians and they regard your work as significant and professional enough to collaborate with you justifies notability. although I do think your article needs to be significantly rewritten for a consensus to remove the "Autobiography" tag, I will defend your "notability." Thus, to let you know, I am working on a revision of your article that hopefully will seem "neutral" to other Wiki editors. I'll be in touch. Edward Dixon (talk) 19:23, 25 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thank you Edward. I appreciate your even handedness. I look forward to reading your revision. Teethmeister (talk) 21:24, 25 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
