About Stasys Šilingas

Hi. You appear to be a scholar and historian, which is great! Wikipedia needs more of you. I do want to make sure you are aware of the implications of posting articles here. Mainly, that you agree to license your contributions under the GNU Free Documentation License and Wikipedia's Copyright terms. This means that other editors can edit articles that you start. These edits may be helpful, or they may seem unhelpful. But once you post an article, you do not own it, and you can't control the content except through persuasion and consensus. I am a scholar myself, and getting rewritten by strangers takes some getting used to. A couple of people to whom I gave this notice ended up withdrawing their contributions, as they were unwilling to accept the copyright terms and to have their words edited by others.

Hopefully you are already familiar with wikipedia and are happy (as I am) to have your contributions made available in this way. Wikipedia is a great experiment to see if knowledgable people on all topics are willing to basically give away their knowledge. Good luck and have fun. Thatcher131 02:27, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Whoever edited this page recently is not fluent in English.

You should be aware of neutrality requirements in Wikipedia. That means such phrases as "learned Lithuanian to perfection" or "failed but great Uprising" should be avoided. Sticking to the facts is the best option; there is no need for editorializing. At first the article read as a very emotional account of his life: the greatest man alive, all alone restored independence of Lithuania and all alone suffered in a Russian prison. Wikipedia is here not to praise people, but to write a neutral and scholarly biography about them. Thanks, Renata 02:03, 27 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for Image:Cartoon223.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Cartoon223.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 23:06, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments, Renata. I get your point, but I think you are a bit emotional yourself. Best, Svaja
