Editing Economy of Romania

edit

It is really nice of you to do all the work into the article. But I have a suggestion: if you are not actually making up all those numbers, but you are taking them from a website, then try to add the reference too. You do not need to edit the reference. I might do that in the future. Just take the url, the address of the wevsite and copy it right after the text you are editing, and put that url in bracketts like this:

[this is the website where you found the address on, say www.xyz.com]

Balti

edit

Please, avoid editing Balti page, unless you have a source and a link and it sticks to the consensus reached. You show the lack of banal knowledge on Balti on such simple things as, for the example, the name of the city. You also do not read Balti talk page, where a consensus was found on a number of edits you are reverting with no explication. Thank you. Moldopodo (talk) 13:50, 16 December 2007 (UTC)MoldopodoReply

The correct name of the city is Bălţi not Balti, speaking about banal knowledge on Bălţi town.--Suchwings1 (talk) 14:04, 16 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
The correct name in English is Balti. Speaking about banal knowledge of names of my city, Belţi form was never used, and it's the first time I see this creation, and it was done by you. Please stick to the consensus reached on the Balti talk page, everything is explained there. Thank you. Moldopodo (talk) 14:48, 16 December 2007 (UTC)MoldopodoReply

Dnister

edit

Erm, why are you renaming the article from its English name into the Romanian one? Without any kind of proposal, discussion etc... --Illythr (talk) 20:42, 16 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, but I used to think that is nicer Nistru name. "Dn" is so hard to spell and is very difficult for English-speakers and I guess for English speakers is much easier Nistru.Suchwings1 (talk) 11:40, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
It's the established English name, nothing much to do about it here... --Illythr (talk) 11:45, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I don't agree that English name is with "Dn", e.g. nobody said Trandsnistria but Transnistria. See Transnistria.--Suchwings1 (talk) 11:46, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
There is nothing to agree upon - it's a fact:[1],[2]. Of course, the name itself was borrowed into English (probably from Russian or Ukrainian). I actually see the name "Trans-Dniester" quite often, but in this case, "Transnistria" is the established name, borrowed from Romanian, this time. --Illythr (talk) 11:54, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Oh..I see, anyway it's hard to spell "Dn". I think more and more is used "Nistru" and not "Dnister".--Suchwings1 (talk) 11:56, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=nistru Google hits Results 1 - 10 of about 203,000 for nistru.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=dnister Results 1 - 10 of about 125,000 for dnister

You need to refine your search a bit, to produce reliable results: First, there are many things called "Nistru" in Romania, like the football team, some companies... Additionally, there's the whole ronet that uses "Nistru".
So, a search on ""Dniester+river in English is more accurate and it demonstrates that Dniester is approximately 4 times more popular than Nistru river. A similar search on "Dnister", without the 'e' yields another 14200 hits. --Illythr (talk) 12:06, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
When you say Nistru it's clear, anyway it's less used with Dniester as you have seen. That's a fact. Google results. Suchwings1 (talk) 12:09, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
There is at least one hotel, two companies and a FC called "Nistru" (all in Romania or Moldova) on the first page of the Google search alone. Obviously, they don't count towards the popularity of the river's name in English. I mean, come on, Checking Google for "Bender" (the official name of Tighina) produces many millions of results, but most of them have to do with all those people, not the actual city. Without proper refining, a Google search is often nearly useless. --Illythr (talk) 12:17, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I do think that official name of Tighina is Tighina. The city doesn't have two names. It's like Leningrad, Sankt Petersburg now and before. The city was named just for few years.Suchwings1 (talk) 13:11, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Do not think. Check the official legislation. --Illythr (talk) 14:33, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
