Hey SuMadre. There is a lively debate about use of promo photos on wikipedia. My name is Jeff and I Do not support the interpretation of WP:FU as implemented by user's like User:Chowbok. They believe that Wikipedia should be free of all promotional photos that are "replaceable with an equivalent" (i.e. an amateur photo from flickr). Their rationale is being debated in many places, and take it a step further believing that all promo photos should be deleted and let someone else deal with finding and uploading a free alternative.

And many other places I've no doubt missed.

I and many others who support use of fair use promotional photos have not been successful in changing the actions of Chowbok and rampant deletion and changing of many hundred's of useful images from Wikipedia articles continues. One good example is the Jennifer Granholm article which had a great promo photo replaced by a terrible photo. I seek to raise the profile of this issue through challenging promotional photos on high profile article's like this one. I'm sorry, really I am, but fair use policy as implemented by Chowbok has left me with few viable options.

I invite you to join the battle for Promotional Photo usage on Wikipedia and the protection of Fair Use concepts. --Jeff 07:51, 9 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Jack Cox edit

You might want to leave that note on his user page. I dunno if he'll see it on mine. —Chowbok 17:22, 21 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Atheism, etc. edit

  • I was an atheist for awhile, but gave it up, due to the lack of holidays. So I switched to the The Church of What's Happening now.
  • I saw a flying spaghetti monster just the other day. However, it was just my young son hurling unwanted spaghetti and meathballs through the air.
  • I don't think God created the universe in seven days. I think He outsourced it.
  • Everyone has to believe in something. I believe I'll have another drink. Wahkeenah 04:30, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Mmixon.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Mmixon.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rettetast (talk) 19:02, 19 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

May 2008 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, we would like to remind you not to attack other editors, as you did on Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Order_of_Gimghoul. Please comment on the contributions and not the contributors. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Please assume good faith and discuss the article, not the nominator. Thank you. Yellowspacehopper (talk) 15:47, 4 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
