Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User

edit

Hello, I saw you listed in the category for those that are seeking adoption. I'd be happy to get you started on Wikipedia. If you'd like, just leave me a message on my talk page. If you would like to find a different adopter or possibly an additional one, feel free to check here. (Guyinblack25 15:42, 27 June 2007 (UTC))Reply

Ok, if that is the case, then go ahead and replace the current tag, {{adoptoffer|Guyinblack25}}, with {{adoptee|Guyinblack25}}. If you have any questions, you know how to reach me. Later. (Guyinblack25 14:33, 28 June 2007 (UTC))Reply
Just thought I'd take the first step here and ask if you had any articles that you would like to improve/create, any images you're thinking of uploading, if you have seen anything on Wikipedia that you felt was a bit confusing or odd, or just anything that you're curious about. Feel free to start a new topic on my talk page. (Guyinblack25 14:46, 29 June 2007 (UTC))Reply

Re:What I Should Do

Game articles
Well, I would recommend any game that you have an interest in. If you don't want to create a page, you can always find a page that could use some editing. There are plenty on Wikipedia. I noticed you had made some edits to ObsCure, that would be a good place to start. You can always start off small and build up to larger scale edits. A good start would be doing copy editing, looking for incorrect spelling and grammar.

Another thing that I started doing when I began editing game articles is expanding the "Reception" sections of games. My first edits for those were real simple. "SoAndSoWebsite rated this game a # out of 10" or "SoAndSoWebsite rated the graphics a # out of 5". Maybe add "They stated that the game had realistic/subpar graphics". Basically you go to sites like, IGN, GameSpot, GameSpy, or GamePro (sites that are well established for their critiques of video games) and you paraphrase some of the comments they made about the gameplay, graphics, story, stuff like that. Don't worry about if it's a negative or positive comment, we're just trying to help paint the whole picture. It improves the article when you have all viewpoints mentioned. When you add content that is the opinion of someone else, make sure you cite the source you got it from by using the <ref> and </ref> tags. For more info see the Wikipedia:Footnotes, specifically the "How to use" section.

Images
If you see an article that doesn't have a cover, and you are able to scan that cover, go for it. Just keep a few things in mind.

  • Make sure the image is low resolution, 72dpi is normal web resolution in case you may not have known that.
  • When you upload the image, you'll have to select a licensing tag, otherwise it could be deleted from Wikipedia for violating copyright.
  • In the summary include a description of image. If you found it on a website, include a link to the page you pulled it from.
  • Be sure to add a fair use rationale, otherwise it could also be deleted from Wikipedia for violating copyright. The Video Game images task force has a section on their page on how to properly do that.

Here are some examples of image pages. Image:KH-COM-ConceptArt.jpg, Image:KingdomHeartsMangaVol1Cover.jpg, Image:Victorious Boxers Cover.jpg

And in conclusion...
Sorry if I sound long winded, sometimes I can go on for a while and give too much info. Also that's a lot to take in, so if you have any questions or I didn't make something clear, feel free to ask. Happy editing. (Guyinblack25 20:14, 29 June 2007 (UTC))Reply

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Bully GameDisc.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Bully GameDisc.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 16:07, 20 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Inactivity

edit

Hi, I've noticed you've been inactive for some time now. Given that amount of time, I'm putting the adoption on hold indefinitely. If you happen to resume editing, please feel free to drop me a note to continue the adoption, or if you feel confident enough in going it on your own, feel free to ask any questions you may have. Take care. (Guyinblack25 talk 17:12, 29 August 2008 (UTC))Reply
