Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Oxyporinae, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 22:23, 10 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Subfamilies

edit

Hi Spongymesophyll, please take a look at the chages I made to your edits of Scaphidiinae, Staphylininae, and Steninae. Could you follow the article formatting that is used, and not add the Staphylinidae subfamily list to the taxoboxes of subfamilies themselves. Those taxoboxes should have either a short list of the genera in the subfamily, or if there are more then about 5 the words "see text" and a list in the taxonomy prose.--Kevmin § 05:43, 25 May 2013 (UTC)‎Reply

Subfamilies reply

edit

I'm currently making a Lucid key to the North American subfamilies of Staphylinidae. I want the resource pages available in the key to be Wikipedia pages because they are easily editable and updatable. Right now I'm trying to create and provide a consistent format for each page. More will be added to each subfamily later by me and others after the basic structure has been laid down. I research staphylinids and I'm trying to create a resource that is appropriate to the public and general researchers. Most all of the pictures are my own as well, so quite a bit of time has been put into this, despite rough-around-the-edges feel of the pages.

As a matter of style I like having the subfamilies available on the side of each subfamily page because it allows people to click back and forth between subfamilies quickly and efficiently. Sadly that will probably get taken away, but for now that's how I have formatted all the pages I've created/updated. -Mike

But its not what or how the taxobox is to be used. It is to be used as a quick guide to the taxon the page is for, not for a link to the parent taxon.--Kevmin § 21:16, 25 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

(Mike: it is common on Wikipedia to sign your entries on a talk page with four tildes instead of writing your username or personal name. Using four tildes will automatically add your user name and time of entry to the place where you have used them, which is often helpful to other editors following your conversation. Just a guideline, though, not a requirement. Thanks! KDS4444Talk 22:45, 23 September 2013 (UTC))Reply
