The Sex also known as The Naughty Things is an American punk rock n roll band from Tempe, Arizona formed in 2008. The band started with just two friends, guitarist Michael 'Spaz' OBrien and guitarist Harley Guy. Friends for many years before even starting the band, they decided one day to start playing music. After writing a couple songs ([[Without You and Nobody Knows)]] playing out of broken amps and cheap guitars, soon vocalist Kate Mexal joined the band with little experience as a vocalist. After their first practice with Kate singing to the two songs they had, Spaz and Harley were blown away with her amazing vocals, and knew this is the start of something big. Still with no bass player, Kate asked her boyfriend Bobby Calabrese( guitarist and vocalist from the horror rock band Calabrese) to join the band as the bass player to fill the hole. Bobby agreed and joined the band at their next session. The four gathered at a pay by hour practice studio in Tempe and decided to find a drummer. After trying out numerous drummers, the four band members were fed up until they met Jeff Hey. They all five practiced to write six more songs and the future was looking bright. Shortly after all of their hard work, Harley and the others started to get in disagreements and Harley's drug abuse was getting in the way of the bands practice sessions. So Kate and Spaz decided Harley should no longer be part of The Sex. The band continued with their song writing and started looking for small time gigs to play. For years of being Arizona residents, and years of going to shows and knowing major promoters to the point of being good friends, they started on the right foot, their first show was at Stray Cats in Tempe with old 80s punk band The Joneses. Kate, Spaz, Bobby and Jeff couldn't be happier sharing the stage with a band they've been listening to since they first started listening to punk rock. Playing shows threw out the Tempe/ Phoenix area for the year of 2009, The Sex soon found a new bass player and drummer. Bobby was missing practices and recording sessions due to the excessive traveling of his popular horror rock band, and Jeff lacking the motivation the band was looking for. They found Gerson who was in Spaz's other band The Prosthetics to play bass for The Sex, and Chadd, an old time friend of Gerson and Spaz. The two new members were a perfect fit for the band and shortly after teaching and rewriting some songs, The Sex opened up for 80s punk band Vice Squad. A week later they embarked on a west coast tour to spread their love. That being their last show for temporarily. Spaz moved to Chicago, IL to go to school for criminal justice. Word has it threw the internet vine and Arizona punk scene, Spaz is moving back to Tempe to pursue with the bands career and to put a full album out by winter of 2010. Also plans of a tour of summer 2011.
