AfD nomination of Transnationality Index

edit

I have nominated Transnationality Index, an article you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Transnationality Index. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. 1. Please refrain from using inflammatory language in edit summaries or anywhere else on Wikipedia. Your last edit summary was entirely unacceptable.
  2. Categories should not be added unless an article already mentions that fact. In other words, an article shouldn't be included in Category:Uyghurs unless somewhere within the article it says that the person is Uyghur (or in some other way fits into the category); otherwise people seeing the category will think "What? Where did this come from?" If there is something you think is missing the article, it's more productive to add it to the article, rather than adding a new category. I have added a sentence to the article on Chang's heritage.
  3. I still do not believe Chang "is Uyghur." Having one Uyghur ancestor doesn't automatically make one Uyghur and part of Uyghur culture. She grew up in Taiwan and Canada. (There has been a debate going on at Talk:Jessica Alba about this same matter of heritage and ethnicity, and you may find it interesting to read what has been said there.) If you can find a good, reliable source that states she considers herself Uyghur and is involved in Uyghur culture, then you can put the category back in, but make sure you cite the source in the article. Also, the statement I added to the article (that she has a Uyghur grandfather) also needs sourcing; I did a google search on that a long time before your last edit summary telling me to, and all I could find were two or three fansites that do are not valid sources (they do not satisfy WP:RS).

Thank you for your time. Please discuss this matter at Talk:Angela Chang if disagree with my removal of the category. —Politizertalk • contribs ) 13:27, 17 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
