Welcome

edit

Hello, Socsouth, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been reverted for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of deletion, you might like to draft your article before submission, then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. To start creating a draft article, just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit that page as you would any other. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

The one firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. It is also worth noting that Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which specifically link them to one company or corporation. If your username does have such a name, it would be advisable for you to request a change of username.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! You can also just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Invitrovanitas (talk) 16:32, 3 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Blanking

edit

Could you please explain the blanking of Thomas L. Brown II? In general, he is notable as a flag officer, and the article, while not well sourced, is not controversial or inappropriate in nature. If you are editing on behalf of Special Operations Command South as your username implies, that is inappropriate, according to Wikipedia guidelines, although it's hardly a great sin. Once in place on Wikipedia, absent any compelling reason to delete, the article should stay. Acroterion (talk) 16:06, 10 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'd like to point out that this blanking is especially weird, considering he created the article in the first place and has a copy in userspace. 155.33.172.164 (talk) 16:10, 10 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
If you are trying to add the additional content you've developed in your userspace, please do so as necessary. Note that the article is properly named already: titles and honorifics are excluded from article titles under most circumstances. Ernest King is, for example, just that, not Fleet Admiral Ernest King. Acroterion (talk) 16:12, 10 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Now that you've added the content, please add back the blue links to other Wikipedia articles that were removed by the copy/paste. You can see what was added in the edit history. Also, I have significant concerns about your username: editors cannot represent an organization or group - they must edit as an individual, and it is particularly perilous to edit as an acknowledged member of a given organization, as it gives an appearance of a conflict of interest. I don't see a problem with your actual contributions here, I'm mostly concerned about the username, as you may not want to give the impression of an officially-sanctioned biography. Do you wish to change your username? Acroterion (talk) 16:17, 10 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, your account has been blocked; you are welcome to create a new account with a username that represents only you. You should also read our conflict of interest guideline. If your username doesn't represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. Thank you.
