Mannamalai and Meesapulimala

Hi Siva1511,

I saw your comments on the Meesapulimala talk page and the subsequent incorporation of details of Mannamalai in various Wikipedia pages. Thank you very much for your contributions. It would be great if you could upload images of Meesapulimala from your trek on its Wikipedia page.

I wanted to ask you regarding the trek you made. Did you go there with the help of a guide? If you did, did the guide take you to the top of Mannamalai too? Did he tell you the name of the peak was Mannamalai? Did you see any border trail between Meesapulimala and Mannamalai?

The reason I'm asking you these questions is that I'm not convinced about the name of the mountain. If we look at the Survey of India maps on their website (please open in IE) http://www.surveykshan.gov.in, a peak roughly 1.2-1.3 km WSW of this peak is possibly marked as Manna Malai. I think it's unlikely, but if you have any documentation that the name of the higher peak is Mannamalai, then could you share it. Thanks. - Ashinpt (talk) 13:46, 29 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi Ashinpt,

I went there once with a guide from the Kerala Forest Department Corporation and once without a guide(this was when I climbed Mannamalai). When I went with a guide, we were running short of time and climbed only Meesapulimala. I asked him about the peak to the north and he told me that it was 20 meters shorter and that it was named 'Mookumalai'(The Nose mountain). The peak did look like a face with a sharp nose.

I did see some rocks with some numbers written on them in red paint on the ridge. I am not sure if they are border markings.

However, when I came back and checked my GPS readings and Google Earth, it became clear that the peak to the north was actually 20 meters taller. Thanks for partipating Wikipedia Asian Month last year, and I hope you enjoy it. Last year, more than 7,000 articles contribute to Wikipedia in 43 languages in Wikipedia Asian Month, making us one of the largest event on Wikipedia. We will organize this event again in upcoming November, and would like to invite you join us again.

This year, we are lowering down the standards that you only need to create 4 (Four) articles to receive a postcard (new design), and articles only need to be more than 3,000 bytes and 300 words. We are also improving our postcard sending process, e.g. making the postcards right now, and collecting the address after the event ends without waiting other languges.
