  If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors;
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam); and,
  4. avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for businesses. For more details about what, exactly, constitutes a conflict of interest, please see our conflict of interest guidelines. Thank you. JNW (talk) 04:42, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Draft of new content for Siddhachalam wiki entry

edit

I have created a draft of the new content for Siddhachalam wiki entry User:Siddhachalam/Draft_SubPage as the current page does not have much info.

Request you to review it and move to the main site at the earliest.

Thanks,

I looked at it, and it seems to be the same text, that which is a near or exact copy of the content from the organization's web site. As such, it raises the same concerns re: copyright violation, your possible conflict of interest, and by extension, using Wikipedia for advertising, WP:ADVERT. I recommend you read the guidelines on these issues carefully, for violations of any of these guidelines are taken seriously. Thanks, JNW (talk) 15:48, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Presumably copyright is not an issue if you have permission to quote material. However, Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines - see WP:COI - generally advise that if you have a close connection to the topic, you help via the Talk page (Talk:Siddhachalam) and let uninvolved editors decide on the precise wording.
I've added the standard welcome message above, which links to the main important guidelines here. Gordonofcartoon (talk) 04:17, 19 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

How do I update content of the wiki entry for my organization?

edit

{{helpme}}

I see that the wiki entry for my organization is a very terse one. How do I update its content without creating COI/Advert issues? I have put in the content in the sub-page User:Siddhachalam/Draft_SubPage for review and upon approval, moving to the main page. I do have approval from the President of the Organization to add this content to the Wikipedia. However as has rightly been pointed out, the content is nearly similar to the current website.

Please advise.

TIA,

Webmaster at Siddhachalam dot org

A quick look at your draft does seem to read more like a fluff piece. I would suggest you put a link on the article talk page to your draft and let neutral editors pull over info that can improve the article. GtstrickyTalk or C 20:36, 22 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
