Michigan Wikipedians roll call

edit

Greetings Shoelsch! The Michigan Wikipedians is currently conducting a roll call to ascertain which of its members are still active. If you are still an active Michigan Wikipedian, please go to our members list and move yourself from into the active members subsection at the top of the page. On November 1st, all of the members who have not moved themselves into the active members subsection will be renamed inactive members. Even after November 1st, however, any editor can move himself or herself from inactive to active status. Thank you for your participation in the Michigan Wikipedians. As always, you are more than welcome to participate with us, either in person or remotely via the Internet. Take care! Michael Barera (talk) 00:53, 1 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

I've just started a new Land of Sunshine article in my sandbox

edit

I just wanted to let you know that I've just started a new Land of Sunshine article in my sandbox. It is still a little tiny stub, but it is a place to begin. Feel free to add to it and improve it in any way that you see fit. Just please remember to cite everything you add to the text of the article: while primary sources are OK, secondary sources are preferred, and it is perfectly fine to cite print sources (although remember that it is easier for Wikipedia readers to find and check sources when they are available online). If you have any questions, just let me know. My next project will be uploading the logo and a sample cover to Wikimedia Commons (thankfully possible because everything from Land of Sunshine is in the public domain) and then using those images to illustrate the article. Hopefully this all makes sense. Michael Barera (talk) 17:11, 31 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

UPDATE: I've substantially developed the article in my sandbox, but it still has a long way to go. Also, I've successfully uploaded a few magazine covers to this category on Wikimedia Commons. Once again, please feel free to edit and improve the article as you see fit. Take care! Michael Barera (talk) 02:56, 2 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
November 9 Update: I've been continuing to work on the Land of Sunshine article, and it is really starting to take shape now. I still want to do a few more things with it, including adding a section about publishing (including circulation numbers) and also adding more information about the magazine's later history as Out West. The one major concern I have for the article is it being overly dependent on a single source, so finding and adding other quality sources would be much appreciated. As before, please feel free to edit and improve the article in any way that you are able to do so. Thanks! Michael Barera (talk) 18:49, 9 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

November 14 Update: I am almost done with the Land of Sunshine article in my sandbox (it can always be improved, but I think it is about ready to move to the mainspace). I plan to make the move tomorrow at about 12 noon EST, and (if everything goes according to plan) I will move it to the page The Land of Sunshine. If the destination page changes for any reason, I'll let you know as soon as possible. As always, please feel free to edit the article as you see fit, no matter if it is still in my sandbox or not. And also, I plan on applying for DYK tomorrow as soon as I move the article to the mainspace, so I'll keep you posted on that as well: it is a really cool process for rewarding new and recently expanded content on Wikipedia, and it will give The Land of Sunshine its time in the limelight by running it on the mainpage (in the DYK section, beneath the featured article of the day) for a few hours on whatever day it runs (between 6 and 12, I believe, depending on how high demand is for DYK spaces). I hope this all makes sense: if not, please feel free to ask me for clarification. Take care! Michael Barera (talk) 21:30, 14 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

November 15 Update: The article is now live at The Land of Sunshine, just in time for the MCubed Symposium this afternoon! Michael Barera (talk) 18:14, 15 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
