Introduction

edit

Please contribute below to a discussion on how to improve the RfC on the associated user page. This is not the place to discuss the outcome of the RfC (what capitalization should be chosen), but to discuss how to create a fair and clear RfC. Thank you. SchreiberBike | ⌨  23:08, 15 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

@FyzixFighter, Bahooka, Rogerdpack, ChristensenMJ, and Rogerdpack: I want to work with all involved so that the RfC can be clear and fair, so I'm pinging the people who objected to the proposals at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Capital letters#Midsentence capitalization of the to be sure that everyone sees this proposed RfC. Three days ago, I posted a notice about it at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Capital letters. After there's a consensus, or if there's no opposition for a couple of days, I'll post the RfC on Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Capital letters. SchreiberBike | ⌨  00:24, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
@SchreiberBike: I think that it's neutrally worded. I would just make the order of the examples more consistent. That is, in the mid-sentence examples you list a "the" example followed by a "The" example, while in the title examples you reverse that order by listing a "The" example followed by a "the" example. I would just make it consistent and make it consistent with the order that the options, "Capitalize" or "Lower case", are listed in the question. It's a minor thing but would make it a bit more readable imo. Also, pinging Awilley who looks to have been inadvertently missed. --FyzixFighter (talk) 00:22, 20 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
@FyzixFighter: Thank you for pinging Awilley; My mistake.
You're right that it would be more clear if the options were presented in the same order each time. My thinking was that varying the order prevented one option from appearing to be more favored than the other. I could go either way and if you prefer the capitalized version first I'll go with that. Thanks for your response.  SchreiberBike | ⌨  02:30, 20 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
I've made the changes suggested above by FyzixFighter. Baring further discussion, I'll post the RfC tomorrow. SchreiberBike | ⌨  01:48, 22 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

The proposal should have included the categories into which the RfC would be included. I chose style and religion/philosophy ({{rfc |style |reli}}).

The proposal also should have included a plan for closing the RfCSchreiberBike | ⌨  13:00, 23 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
