Hello, thank you for your additions relating to fossil collecting around Greater Manchester. However, your additions are in break of Wikipedia's policy on external links (see WP:EL and WP:SPAM).

In this capacity, though your intentions were probably good, it is likely you will find these addtions removed from articles shortly. If you could halt your progress on adding this link, the editting community would be greatful. -- Jza84 · (talk) 12:57, 19 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add commercial material to Wikipedia. While objective prose about products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Thank you. -- Jza84 · (talk) 23:00, 19 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello, and thanks for the contact.

Adding external links can be a service to our readers, but they should be kept to a minimum of those that are meritable, accessible and appropriate to the article. Adding external links to an article or user page for the purpose of promoting a website or a product is not allowed, and is considered to be spam. Although the specific links may be allowed under some circumstances, repeatedly adding links will in most cases result in all of them being removed. Wikipedia is not a mirror or a repository of links, images, or media files. See WP:EL and WP:SPAM.

Due to the rising profile of Wikipedia and the amount of extra traffic it can bring a site, there is a great temptation to use Wikipedia to advertise or promote sites. This includes both commercial and non-commercial sites. You should avoid linking to a website that you own, maintain, represent or are otherwise involved with even if the guidelines otherwise imply that it should be linked. This is in line with the conflict of interest guidelines.

I'm sorry this appears brutal but all of the above is quoted exactly from Wikipedia's guidelines. You added one of your links to Ipswich for example, however, there are literally hundreds if not thousands of websites related to Ipswich that could be listed there. The editting community is likely to have any that neither have context or are comprehensive, removed outright. I don't think there is scope to add external links to specific settlements, but, there is one to the site you use at the Fossil article. I hope that helps, -- Jza84 · (talk) 11:22, 20 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
