Welcome!

edit

Hi there Sanoxel. I see you've been editing tropical cyclone articles recently. I'm curious how you knew to update storm path, like you did in your first edit. Are you new to Wikipedia? Or perhaps were you using a different account previously? Just wanted to check in and say hi. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 20:33, 4 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the late reply but yes, I'm new to Wikipedia as of editing but I am very interested in Meteorology and i knew how to update old tropical cyclone tracks to newer, best track data for the storms that have not been updated for quite some time or for those with the old color palette. Oh cool, have you been making tropical cyclone track maps for a while? ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:47, 17 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes I have been making them for a while but for some small projects mostly. Sanoxel (talk) 18:56, 17 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Nice! Well, Wikipedia is about projects big and small. I see you're interested in the northwest Pacific. Do you prefer newer or older storms? Or perhaps both? There are lists of tropical cyclones affecting most places on Earth, such as List of typhoons in Guam, Tropical cyclones in Vietnam, or Typhoons in the Korean Peninsula. There are also some fairly important storms that don't have articles, like the 1936 Korea typhoon (which killed over 1,000 people). Also, there are some bigger lists that are missing, such as List of China typhoons and List of Japan typhoons, which would both be pretty big projects. Just wanted to let you know some of the various projects that eventually need to get done. In the meantime, helping with the track maps is appreciated, as there are thousands of maps that still need updating. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 19:16, 17 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I prefer both old and new typhoons but some old typhoons are not really well documented and it would be harder to find reliable data or sources about them, regardless I'm interested in both the new and old versions of pacific typhoons. Sanoxel (talk) 20:56, 17 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I agree. Part of why older typhoons aren't well-documented is that Wikipedia doesn't have coverage of them. Once they're on Wikipedia, it will likely get picked up by other sources. So speaking of that, I don't know if you know, but Pacific typhoons are usually organized by season article. We have the 2023 Pacific typhoon season, for example, but we don't have 1923 Pacific typhoon season. Same for 2024 versus 1924. There are sources out there for the older seasons, we just haven't gotten anyone to write them. I wrote a few of them, like 1900 Pacific typhoon season, 1927 Pacific typhoon season, 1931 Pacific typhoon season, but I honestly got overwhelmed at the thought of writing all of them. I don't know if it's an interest of yours, but would you ever want to try writing an old Pacific typhoon season article (before 1938). ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:25, 17 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I might try to write an article about an old typhoon or season, but i will also be focusing on getting many of the track maps updated from outdated or old colored maps (Also will try to redo maps for other basin storms not only North-Western Pacific storms) Sanoxel (talk) 12:52, 18 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
That works. If you ever do decide to write an article, feel free to reach out to me, I might be able to help you find sources. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:54, 18 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
