Kurumba Gounder

Kurumba Gounder is a wealthier community, Kshatriyas from South India, especially the state of Tamil Nadu.Lived as the kings during king dynasty.

History

·       The Kurumba Gounders were lived as the Kings during the Pallava King Dynasty. The Kurumba Gounders are also called as kurumba due to the removal od patta peyar under act. The other words like kurumans etc... were not considered into Kurumba Gounders. During the pallava dynasty the kurumba mannar or kings were nowadays living as a kurumba gounders. The kurubas and Kurumans were lived as the soldier and servants for the Kurumba mannargal. Though the most of the histories were burned out during the bristish control. As, before british period the kurumba Gounders were also the kings under certains areas like karnataka,tamil nadu and kerala. They tend to migrate for different places during the wars. most of the kings were migrated to Tamilnadu especially the kongu region, chola region and thondai region. kurubas also called as gowdas remained in karnataka as shepheard farmers. kurumans migrated to nilgiri hills and kerala hills living as a tribe.

·       Kurumba Gounders have become the landlords or landowners after the migration to tamilnadu and tend to follow the life as farmers. Gounder title were given after migration as they have lived as Woor Gounders under certain villages.

Gounders traditionally controlled most of the land in western Tamil Nadu, and had the Arunthathiyar community as labourers. Gounder farmers appont Arunthathiyars for working in their fields. Thanks to their land ownership, the Gounders were also able to control the most industrialists in several regions. The community plays a significant role in the political and economic life.

Culture

Kurumba Gounder were following kulam, koottam and gosthram according to the temples and cultural tradition.

KULAM- VELLI KULAM, ARASA KULAM, AARIYA KULAM etc...

The cultural following are according to the regions of tamil nadu. Kurumba Gounders follow the inter-caste marriages they will be marrying under different kulams and koottams. They will not marry other caste peoples. Some are marrying under different gounders like Anuppa Gounder, Vellala Gounder, Nattu Gounder etc... They are the devotees of Dhoddammal veerabadhran, Dhoddrayan, Vettaikarar, etc...

Traditional duties

The traditional roles of this community are agriculture and cattle-rearing, but over time they came to be landowners, weaving, traders and money-lenders.
