Notes on the proposal

• Looking at this, I definitely agree on the need to come up with a better naming convention for cable networks; it seems to have been muddled over the years by multiple moves (the TBS title history being by far, the worst), and that really needs to be cleaned up. I do agree though, that there are much fewer 'cable networks', and we really need to stop thinking of them as such. There should also be mention of the American Broadcasting Company/Fox Broadcasting Company issue as those two articles have been under multiple rename proposals over the years.
• The suffixes; don't forget there was that period after the digital transition in the summer of 2009 where stations and station groups could grab a -TV or -DT suffix, even if they never had a connected radio station (Journal and Griffin did that, along with Univision). It's definitely an esoteric note for sure, I'll admit.
• The issue with the international kids networks is my white whale right now, but among the main articles and their associated list-ofs. I just finished trying to convince a edit warrior that the list-of for Disney XD should just mention all the channels, rather than just the American one, especially as the network is being winnowed down and what's left are lists on the main defunct network articles that aren't sourced and are usually just copies of the American network. For Nickelodeon at least there's some cause for variation, but generally these networks mostly contain the same programming from country to country, and a proper disambiguation format is sorely needed. The question sadly is how to get that consensus without getting the dander of the 'network fans' raised up who prefer Their Version®.

These are just early late-at-night thoughts, and I'm sure I'll have more once I have more time to look at the PoA in detail. Nate • (chatter) 07:40, 5 April 2022 (UTC)

Channels

I'd suggest looking at the radio note under "Channels" in the table. The word channel isn't generally used in radio (outside of the Sirius XM, as noted, as well as in some instances with DAB+), but frequency serves the same purpose and is commonly used around the world. How about something like:

• Not commonly used in radio, although a channel's frequency or dial position may be referred to as its "channel", especially in some technical instances.
• Channel numbers are used with some satellite radio services, particularly Sirius XM.
• Channel numbers are relevant for DAB multiplexes, but typically are not used in identifying stations broadcasting via the multiplex.
• HD Radio subcarriers may also sometimes be identified as a channel, using the main station frequency with the subcarrier number appended with a hyphen, for example, 102.1-2 MHz.
