Heuglin's Gull edit

Thanks! What I really wanted to know was which (if any) of the various options is generally accepted by ornithologists... or failing that, what the basis for the controversy might be. Cheers, -- Visviva 23:47, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

References, etc. edit

Hi SP-KP. When adding references or {{fact}} tags, could you please put them after punctuation such as full stops and commas. This is the recommended style, and looks much better. Thanks, JPD (talk) 17:20, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

list of first female political office holders edit

--AnselmoD79 07:37, 14 January 2007 (UTC) This is coming along nicely. I am working on a similar topic that I think would be good to try pair together and perhaps work together as well. My page is "Influential Women" and currently is broken down by Notable firsts, Country, Profession. I just started it so it needs a good deal of work, but it seems like this could work well together. I am a bit new to this so I am sorry if I posted in the wrong place.Reply

Flora of Beacon Hill edit

When descibing ash of Beacon Hill, do you mean ash tree? or Sorbus aucuparia / mountain ash / rowan? I'm just tracking down loose disambiguation ends. Thanks! --Knulclunk 04:55, 23 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Whitton Bridge Pasture edit

Would it be possible for you to look over Whitton Bridge Pasture article I've been working on. Thinking of nominating it for Good Article so any advice would be much appreciated. Many thanks. - Suicidalhamster 23:15, 16 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Mendip Hills edit

Hi, I've been doing some editing of Mendip Hills & have put it up for peer review (comments welcome) prior to going for FA status. Can I pick your expert knowledge... in doing it I've come accross the British National Vegetation Classification which I know nothing about. The Mendips article says "There are three nationally important semi-natural habitats which are characteristic of the area: Ash-Maple woodland (often with abundant small-leafed lime (Tilia), Calcareous grassland and Mesotrophic grassland. Much of the Mendip Hills is open calcareous grassland which supports a large variety of wild flowering plants and insects. Grazing by rabbits (Lagomorpha), sheep (Ovis aries) and cattle maintains the grassland habitat. Some of the area is deciduous ancient woodland."

Some bits link to the BNVC system & some don't. Would you be kind enough to take a look (particularly at the ecology section) & check I'm getting this right & whether I should be using more specific bits of the classification system. Thanks.— Rod talk 21:07, 18 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Stonechat edit

Hello. I was surfing through the North American bird list doing some clean up and came upon the link to the Stonechat Saxicola torquatus which has bee recorded in Alaska. When I read through the article, I noticed the bird had been broken into other species. The DNA evidence looks compelling, but is it premature to split the species? None of the major ornithologist organizations have yet to officially recognize any of the subspecies as species yet. I was going to attempt some edits to make it more accurate, but since it was primarily a Eurasian bird, I thought I'd defer to someone across the pond. Not sure if you knew more, or whether it was worth a look.............Pmeleski 03:17, 3 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

There is no need to create an article for each entry in the classification. Have you considered merging them upward to one page for each category, as on this page? Chris cheese whine 23:59, 8 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

In the meantime, until you have the time to address this on talkj page, please stop adding new articles for each individual entry in the classification. Chris cheese whine 04:28, 10 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, you seem to be misunderstanding how things work around here. When someone is questioning the addition of a large amount of material, you stop adding it as a matter of course until the issue is resolved. I can't find any record of the consensus you speak of. In fact, the only things I can find support not having a separate article on every single entry in the classification (including amongst others WP:NOT a directory). Chris cheese whine 17:17, 10 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
So, why haven't you responded to the discussion I've linked above? Chris cheese whine 17:27, 10 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
It's at the bottom of the page, under "Upward merging" (as the link suggests). Chris cheese whine 17:30, 10 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
I refer the honorable member to the answer I gave some moments ago. If you still can't find it, let me know, and I'll sign you up for some computer classes and an eye test. Chris cheese whine 17:46, 10 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

OK, seriously, this isn't funny. STOP creating these articles until this point is resolved on that talk page. Chris cheese whine 03:00, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

"I've said I'm happy to engage with you in a discussion on this." So why aren't you? Click on the link above. If it really causes you that much trouble to find it, I can surround it with flashing lights and render it in a massive font, but if you don't respond, I will have to resort to blanket reverting your additions. Mendip Hills FAC edit

Thanks for your edits of Mendip Hills. I have now put it up as a Featured Article Candidate & comments, support or opposition is being recorded at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Mendip Hills.— Rod talk 10:49, 11 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the comment - what appears in the lead that isn't elsewhere?. I've left the NVC links as is but if you think it needs improving please let me know. — Rod talk 11:45, 11 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the clarification- I've done a bit about AONB v National park, but I'm not sure how to address the comment re "those interested in natural history". I would also like a map but can't make one & can't find a free one I can use. You are right about the NVC link as I couldn't find suitable NVC pages for the other types of vegetation.— Rod talk 12:21, 11 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

My revert edit

By the time you read this message it will be done. (On RC Patrol, as soon as I clicked the rollback button, I wished that I hadn't).  ~Steptrip 17:40, 18 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Since you seem to know a lot about the subject of Lobella erinus, do you think that I should move the page to "Lobella Erinus" with a capital "e" in the title?  ~Steptrip 17:43, 18 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hmmm... You're right. Come to think of it, I can't believe that I didn't notice the pattern before (my parents own a pet store and I do spend a little time researching animals, don't ask me why :-)  ~Steptrip 17:49, 18 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

World Heritage template edit

Hi! I created a template for World Heritage Sites: {{Infobox World Heritage Site}}. Since many of the protected areas are also recognized as World Heritage Sites, I thought that it will be appropriate to forward this template here, and hopefully, for the community to help improve the template. Someone mentioned that the footnotes are unclear (i.e. why the need to emphasize "official" there). It's because the official name (or the name as inscribed on the List) is different from what we usually know. And the Region also has footnote to tackle specifically the classification of those regions which may fall ambiguously between two continents (e.g. those in Russia, Turkey, Cyprus, etc.). In addition, I think that the info provided in the template is much like a jargon for most readers since it box is more of use for internal references in the World Heritage program. I hope that the community will help improve the template and make it more relevant to the readers of wikipedia in general. Thanks. Joey80 13:46, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
