Hello Dysfunktion and Lomn,
Thanks for your replies and help. Some has sunk into my skill and
some has not. Still working on Wiki logistics and conventions.
Thanks again... Richard s 8-16-05

Hey, I saw the comments you left on the Uranus page. If you tell me exactly what you wanted to add, I can show you how. By the way, in the future, you should add comments on the talk page (the "Discussion" tab at the top) instead of in the main article. -- Dysfunktion 07:18, 15 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

A note on legibility

edit

Rather than formatting your comments with blank spaces (which causes the no-line-breaks formatting to kick in), you can indent your comments by beginning a line with ":" (and stacking them as needed:

":"indents here
"::"indents here and so on. Lomn | Talk 21:41:55, 2005-08-16 (UTC) (clarified formatting)

Wiki Style & Markup

edit

Help:Contents references a lot of the stuff related to article markup (specifically the Wikipedia:How to edit a page section). This notes that the sandbox is a good place to experiment, but it's also quickly overwritten. What you can do is use subsets of your user space such as User:Richard s/Test Article. Within reason (e.g. WP is not a file server), user space is fair game for anything you want to do, and it's then easy to copy finished markup from user space into article space. As far as article form and such, you can find a lot of info in the content guidelines. A more empirical means of the same is to contrast pages listed on WP:VFD with those in the "Did you know" section of the main page. Regardless, we still encourage you to be bold. If something you write is edited or deleted, rest assured, it's not because people have a vendetta against you or your viewpoints (note: not always true, but the exceptions are vandalism, and no one has any objections to undoing that) but rather operate out of concern for the general goals of the project.

As an additional note, the best way to contact someone is via their User Talk Page. Any signed comment can be clicked, and then click "discussion" on the resulting user page. Additionally, many users have modified their sigs to link directly to their talk pages. Lomn | Talk 03:56:06, 2005-08-17 (UTC)
