June 2011 edit

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Whole Earth Review. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Alexf(talk) 13:08, 16 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Alexf, you (and Wikipedia) may consider the link I added to the "Whole Earth Review" page inappropriate, but it is not. I was Whole Earth's art editor for 13 years. You can check that fact by asking any of the editors, or simply look at the masthead in any issue between 1977 and 1990. My essay (the target of the link) also appears on Whole Earth's website as an "official history" - [1] - I did not link to their copy because their layout makes it harder to read than the version on my website. My essay is also cited on the website of the Museum of Modern Art ([2]), which has a show up now about Whole Earth. Your deletion of my link reduces the informativeness and completeness of the Wikipedia page. If Wikipedia policy forbids authors from linking to their own work, then you should re-post the link yourself. Rhorvitz (talk) 13:44, 16 June 2011 (UTC)RhorvitzReply
I see your reasoning. It is a tough call. I went ahead and AGF and restored it. -- Alexf(talk) 10:30, 19 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
