Rupert Murdoch

edit

Hello, I see you've been doing substantial edits to the murdoch page, which is good. However, the references section got very out of hand while you've been doing it. Please have a look at WP:FOOT and WP:CITE for how we cite sources, your method needs renumbering whenever anyone adds a reference whereas this does it automaticly. As you're reusing the same source for a number of references you can use <ref name="mySource"/> for each additional citation. I hope you keep contributing, Cheers Dmanning 03:24, 18 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry, your last addition was like a magazine piece or short story, too conversational so I reverted. Please try rewriting it - see a diff using the history tab if you didnt save your work. Also, you dont need to use #Redirectother article when linking to a page, just use [[]]. #Redirect is for making a title redirect to another when you load the page, say for a different spelling to an article say hope & glory -> hope and glory. Thank you for your message of welcome. I have been an enthusiastic Wikipaedia client user for several years and have made one or two previous contributions. When I turned up the Rupert Murdoch page, I felt I could make some useful additions from my own personal knowledge but as I got into it I decided I could improve the whole entry and have kept going. I am having some difficulties with style and markup, but the only way to learn is to do it and make a few mistakes so thank you for your tips. I may need to take more time between further edits. I will keep at it until I feel I have contributed as much as I can. I must say I have trouble with "neutrality." To be neutral or neuter is to be neither one thing nor the other, to be "indifferent." Rupert Murdoch is an incredibly powerful figure. It is difficult to be indifferent, so I welcome guidance. I worked very closely with him for twenty years and our lives are almost parallel. I am the younger by just eighteen months. (As such I may be Wiki's oldest contributor) He has been a phenomenal success as a businessman, but Thomas Keirnan offered a particularly apt and quotatable comment: "He is very good at what he does, but is what he does any good?" But I have no wish to play God and make personal judgments. I respect Wiki policies and the need for great care.Reveldor 22:50, 22 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ref-list template

edit

Hello my friend. I noticed that you deleted the text from the Ref-list template without having had a proper discussion on it. Nobody has responded to the last post I put up at the discussion page some weeks ago. Templates shouldn't be deleted without discussion at WP:TfD. Would you mind undoing your deletion until we have a consensus? Thanks! —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 00:55, 25 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I just restored the template myself— I needed to use it in an article. You won't find it transcluded because I substitute for text. Anyways, let's discuss it at a relevant TfD, I'll set one up if you request it. —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 03:19, 25 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

By all means arrange a discussion. Sorry for the delete. I am working on another page of refs at the moment but will post nothing further until we settle on a process.Reveldor 04:37, 26 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm trying to jump-start the merge debate again rather than go for a TfD as of yet. I noticed that {{Reflist}} never had a merge tag referring to {{Ref-list}}, so the debate got split up, forgotten, and petered out. I've put updated merge tags on both templates and directed the debate to Template talk:Reflist#Merging Ref-list into here. Thanks, and have a great day! —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 17:40, 26 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

As I proceed with another page, I am continuing with WP:FOOT ref style. I would like guidance as to whether I should continue this way with sourcing. Also is is better to number continuously throughout the whole document it to number each page's sourcing starting at 1? I'm doing it this way, frankly, because it is easier for me with my limited experience in Wiki markup at this stage.Reveldor 04:15, 28 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you're using the <ref></ref> described at WP:FOOT, then continue; its the preferred format at present. The footnotes are automatically numbered by the wiki software; you don't have to do a thing. Someone can come along and stick a new reference into the middle of things and the footnotes will all renumber themselves. Hope that answers your question, let me know if it doesn't. —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 04:29, 28 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
