There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing. Additionally, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block. To do so, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason for thinking that the block was an error, and publish the page. Request reason:

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I understand that user names representing organizations are not allowed. I have not shared access to this account with anyone else. I thought my comments constituted disclosure of association but will comply with specific terms moving forward. The proposed username is personal to me (my last name and the industry in which I work). My contributions thus far are factual in nature and as explicitly stated, the reason for the updates has been to improve the accuracy of the article while reducing language that could be perceived as advertising. All updates are and will continue to be made in good faith to improve the quality of the entry.

Decline reason:

Your choice of new username seems acceptable. However, please review conflict of interest and paid editing. As it seems that you still want to edit about your company and your field, both areas where you have a conflict of interest, there are no grounds to lift the block. If you want to edit about topics unrelated to your conflict of interest, please tell what those might be. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 15:08, 7 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Please understand that Wikipedia has no interest in what a company(or any article subject) wants to say about itself. Your company can speak for itself on its own website or social media accounts. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that summarizes what independent reliable sources state about your company(this does not include staff interviews, press releases, routine business announcements, or other primary sources. If there is incorrect information about your company in the article about it, you may make formal edit requests on the article talk page if you are interested in being an individual, general contributor. 331dot (talk) 15:10, 7 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, 331dot. I read the conflict of interest and paid editing pages. It seems there is a potential conflict of interest, though I maintain my edits were made in both good faith and with the provision of full disclosure about who I am and who I work for. If unblocked with the new user name, I will seek to contribute only as an individual, general contributor to the field of cybersecurity (general technical and policy information). I will also take the advice to formally request edits and wait for the community to respond. I will not make direct edits to my company's page using this account. I appreciate your patience in explaining terms.

Out of fairness, I can only review one of your unblock requests. You will need to make another that will be reviewed by someone else. I doubt you will be unblocked to edit about cybersecurity since that is your field- but that will be up to the next reviewer. 331dot (talk) 16:35, 7 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
You may find it helpful to read this plain language explanation of the COI policy, which will explain why it will be difficult for you to edit about things related to your field. 331dot (talk) 16:36, 7 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

This has been a great learning experience. I read the Simple COI per 331dot's recommendation. If I am permitted to change my username, I will start by declaring potential conflicts of interest on my user page, then only formally request edits for anything where the conflict of interest may arise, to include changes to articles related to my industry (cybersecurity). I would still like the ability to edit articles for which it is unlikely I would have a conflict of interest and also recommend edits on a variety of articles with the addition of oversight and input from third parties. Thank you.

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only. This unblock request has been open for more than two weeks but has not proven sufficient for any reviewing administrator to take action. You are welcome to request a new block review if you substantially reword your request. Yamla (talk) 13:41, 25 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

I've renamed your account from RecordedFuture and someone else will review your request. 331dot (talk) 20:21, 9 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
