User talk:Reagle/Berkman Reading Group
Just a suggestion - consider reading some of Wikipedia's critics too. I'll start by immodestly pointing to some of my columns (I can't force you folks to treat critics fairly, but I put much thought into these): "Inside, Wikipedia is more like a sweatshop than Santa's workshop" "Wikipedia's school for scandal has plenty more secrets to reveal" "Oh, what a tangled web we weave when first we practise to deceive" "Wikipedia isn't about human potential, whatever Wales says"
Larry Sanger's writing certainly deserve consideration, and are unquestionably academic. From his website: Paper: "Individual Knowledge in the Internet Age," EDUCAUSE Review, Vol. 1, No. 2, March/April 2010. and Paper: "The Fate of Expertise after Wikipedia," Episteme 6 (2009): 52-73. In a special issue mainly about Wikipedia, called "The Epistemology of Mass Collaboration,"
Another worthwhile paper I know of is "Wikitruth Through Wikiorder", David A. Hoffman and Salil Mehra, "In effect, the system functions not so much to resolve disputes and make peace between conflicting users, but to weed out problematic users while weeding potentially productive users back in to participate."
That's off the top of my head, hope you find this interesting. -- Seth Finkelstein (talk) 19:39, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
- Part of the trick is that despite the nice description I wrote, the interests of the various people might not be perfectly aligned, and I expect it will be whatever people are most keen to read. I love the whole issue of Episteme that the Sanger piece appeared in, and Sanger's "Individual Knowledge" essay is already in my reading pile and quite appropriate to the topic. So I'm going to port the latter piece over to a candidate reading. -Reagle (talk) 19:21, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

editHi! Mako told me about your meetings, I would like to join. Wasn't sure whether I should be the one modifying the group membership list on the user page though... Thanks! Andreea Gorbatai 209.6.51.153 (talk) 15:26, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
