Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used as a platform for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. The three edits you've made so far are only to add external links to articles or publications written by a person who shares a great similarity to your username. This is very close to being a conflict of interest. I have not reverted your edits, because the links you've provided appear to be legitimate additions to each article. However, Wikipedia is not about promoting your own work by adding links to various articles. - I have not reverted any of the edits, because as I said, they seem to be legitimate additions to each article. However, the user has only made 3 total edits, and each edit was either adding an external link to rbedrosian.com, or adding a reference to an article or publication by Robert Bedrosian. This may not qualify as spam (which is why I didn't revert the edits), but IMO it doesn't constitute particularly useful editing. I suppose I was trying to encourage Rbedrosian to actually contribute to the text of these articles instead of just adding external links and references to his own work. If my "encouragement" came off as mean or gruff, then I apologize. SnottyWong talk 00:46, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
- Robert Bedrosian is a reliable source author and translator who is cited in multiple articles around Wikipedia.[1] I took a look at the links which were being added, and they are all good solid edits which would have been welcome additions by any editor. Just because someone wrote a reference work, does not mean that they are prohibited from referencing their own books. See WP:SELFCITING and Wikipedia:Expert retention. Now, if Bedrosian were attempting to edit an article about himself, that might run afoul of Wikipedia:Autobiography. But to get such an esteemed academic on Wikipedia who's actually taking the time to provide links to reliable sources? Heck, we should be groveling in thanks, not issuing warnings. :) --Elonka 01:00, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
