Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. MER-C 04:24, 15 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

Hello there, I would like to submit a request to be unlocked please. After speaking with a member of Wikipedia; Yunshui, I understand where I went wrong in my submission of an article an why it was considered to be inclusive of promotional and marketing related efforts; despite being fully unintentional. As mentioned to Yunshui, I am an academic and fully appreciate the importance of generating reliable sources in order to affirm the credibility of information. I was creating an article that did not already exist and I saved the text with the intention of it being a draft so that I could return at a later point to continue and include the relevant references. Furthermore, I fully understand what was wrong with the text that I was writing and why it was deemed to be of a promotional orientation. Should I be given the opportunity to continue being a contributory entity of the Wikipedia society, I will revise the information that I was in the process of creating so that it is in line with the rules of submission; as well as inevitably including all relevant sources. Thank you for reviewing this request and I eagerly await your response to understand whether or not I am able to continue being a part of the Wikipedia community. I am relatively new to editing on Wikipedia and I was not meaning to violate any of the rules that are in place and I fully appreciate and comprehend the necessity of having such rules in please; which greatly affirms my confidence in the reliability of Wikipedia as a source. Many Thanks.

Requested username:

Request reason:

PLEASE NOTE, I created a second accoun(Mrclb20), not in an attempt to continue creating without being noticed or for any other reason, other than I was not sure how to create a new username under the same account. I created the second account and the spoke to Yunshui through that account. Thanks.

Decline reason:

This account will not be unblocked. However, based on the discussion, I will be unblocking the new, replacement account. Please pay extremely close attention to the policies, especially WP:COI, but more importantly please learn to sign your posts with four tildes ~~~~ DP 09:18, 18 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

I'd like a second admin's review of this, but personally I'm open to giving this user another chance. I'd suggest either usurpation of the newly created User:Mrclb20 account, or that we simply lift the autoblock on this account and unblock that one for him to use instead. Yunshui  15:24, 17 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

I would agree with Yunshui, and either option is fine with me. I suggest that we request that the user avoid editing about Quickplay Sport, however. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 19:22, 17 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi all. Is there any news regarding the unblocking of this account yet or allowing for a username alteration please? Many Thanks.

I'm having a little trouble believing this unblock request.
>I am an academic
Therefore, you should have realized that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a marketing medium before you created that "draft". You also should have realized that the (your?) company's "about us" and history pages are not, and never will be, encyclopedic content.
>despite being fully unintentional
Really? As in, you unintentionally copied, pasted and closely paraphrased from the above pages, despite the promotionalism? As in, you unintentionally bolded and italicized every single mention of QuickPlay Sport in that page?
I don't believe you. MER-C 12:28, 20 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for responding to me, MER-C. I used the term "unintentional", not because of my selection of text but merely referring to the unintentional promotional efforts that it included. I fully appreciate the way that the submitted text was perceived but like I said, it was not ready to be submitted. I still had to include my references and actually edit the work that I was doing but never got the chance as I thought that by clicking "save" I would be saving a draft, not submitting the text to consequently lead to my account being blocked for promotional infringement - for which I have apologised. In response to this being an encyclopedia, I understand that, which is why I was not going to submit the piece that you saw as it was draft. Inevitably, this drafted text contained information from the detailed website as I was gathering information and editing it to fit within the context of an encyclopedia. In response to the reference to the typography used when writing "QuickPlay Sport", I chose this approach as this was the entity that I was writing about thus deciding to highlight that throughout the article; I don't know if this is against the rules? If it is then, again, it was unintentional and I apologise. I believe that when writing about a company, it is essential to include that business's history and a little about them in order to let people know what they actually do; which is just like what the majority of company articles do on this site. MER-C, I am interested to know what reservations you have in unblocking my account? I have explained this occurrence with honesty, accuracy and I have not tried to avoid explaining any of my actions, simply detailing that I am new to Wikipedia and this was my first article. I have made inputs to another page and nothing was flagged as I had finished what I wanted to write. Many Thanks.

I had trouble squaring your background and your actions. Experience teaches me to be cynical regarding editors who create promotional pages. Wikipedia aims to be a serious reference work, and advertising, copyright violations and plagiarism are not tolerated. However, it's not my call. But if you are unblocked, you should steer well clear of anything related to QuickPlay Sport. MER-C 11:21, 21 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your advice, MER-C. Who has the ultimate decision regarding the unblocking of the account please?

Unblock Questions

edit

Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. SQLQuery me! 04:53, 14 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Reading the 'Key Questions' that you have detailed, I do understand each point and feel that I have discussed each point with other members of the Wikipedia society. I did not mean to submit at the time it was submitted as I hadn't finished editing and had some more to write/edit and had references to include. I detailed to one of you associates that I have an academic background through to the achievement of post graduate qualifications and therefore understand the importance of liable and supported information and sources. What are the next steps for the unblocking of the account please? Many Thanks. Query me!
