FischBot

edit

Hi, Pyfisch. I've been asked to look into the account User:FischBot which it appears that you are involved with. Are you aware of our policy on bots? Although I am not an expert in this area, it's clear that all bots here must be cleared by the Bot Approvals Group before they are allowed to edit. I can't see any such record for FischBot, so (if it is indeed you) please don't make any further edits from that account without going through the appropriate process. If you have no intention of getting bot approval, let me know and I'll block the account, in accordance with the relevant section of our username policy. Thanks  —SMALLJIM  18:45, 17 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello Smalljim, sorry for the edits I have done with my bot account. I am a developer of Pywikibot framework and I found a weird Error in it ([1]). To evaluate this error I have done some tests, that lead in some cases to unwanted edits. Because I can not reproduce the bug on test.wikipedia.org I tested here. The bot is approved on Wikidata and German Wikiversity. If you want to block the account User:FischBot you can do it, but it may make it more difficult to solve this bug and other bugs in Pywikibot in the future. According to WP:BOTPOL you do not have to block the account "Operation of unapproved bots, [...] is prohibited and may in some cases lead to blocking of the user account [...]." , so please leave it unblocked. Thanks for the reply. I didn't check as far as other sites, so in the circumstances you describe it doesn't sound like a problem to me to leave it unblocked as long as it only makes a minimal number of insignificant edits and you promptly revert its changes. I think you should probably notify the en BAG though, so they are aware and in case anyone else queries it. Hope you can nail the bugs!  —SMALLJIM  19:50, 17 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Had to search this out. You should place some information (like the approval on Wikidata) on the bot's talk page to avoid any potential sticky situations. Good luck ironing out the glitches! Gatemansgc (talk) 21:13, 18 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
