Mortal Kombat edit

It was agreed upon in the discussion on the Wikiproject talk page that game titles in the characters boxes are going to be abbreviated. Longer game titles will take up two lines, and it messes up the structure and professionalism of the layout. For future edits, try to maintain the structures that are presented and agreed upon in the talk page. For example, abbreviations such as MK: Deadly Alliance, MK: Shaolin Monks, etc. should be used. (Notorious4life 01:13, 12 February 2006 (UTC))Reply

Hey, Shadaloo here, just wanted to say that I really think the UMK3 Mileena pic in her article should stick to the right rather than the left, otherwise it just squishes the storyline text in between two boxes, and I think that kind of looks bad. Let me know what you think. Shadaloo 00:40, 17 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Really? I'm looking at it now, and it looks okay to me. Shadaloo 01:21, 17 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
    • It's possible. Check out Noob Saibot's page, I've just made a similar edit. How does that look? Shadaloo 01:38, 17 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
    • That one looks fine. PNF 01:48, 17 February 2006 (UTC)Proud Nintendo FanReply
      • OK. Check Mileena's again. How now? Shadaloo 02:26, 17 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

It was probably a difference in the way we've got our displays set up, I don't know what. What I did to fix it was to move the image tag a bit further down into the storyline section, between paragraphs. Shadaloo 02:59, 17 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

re: verbatim character bios Hi. I noticed that for the Mortal Kombat: Deception article, you put in the char bios (I'm assuming) word for word. I posted on the talk page when I first noticed it that it's probably not a good idea, and thinking about it more I'm certain it's not. One, it's prob'ly not kosher to put it down word for word because of copyright issues. Two, it makes the MKD entry a lot longer than the recommended size (50+KB vs ~33KB). Three, I think that even if it's okay to put the bios verbatim, then they might be better on the individual char pages so as not to inflate (see #2) the article. For now, I'm gonna move it all to the MKD talk page. If you'd like to discuss it further, let me know, and maybe post something on the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mortal Kombat page. Image Tagging Image:ReptileMKSM.jpg edit

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:ReptileMKSM.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Superm401 - Talk 19:57, 12 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for telling me the source of the image. However, Wikipedia has to consider the copyright of all the files we include. In this case, the images are copyrighted by the game manufacturer; that means we can't use them without a fair use rationale. Please see Wikipedia:fair use and Wikipedia:image policy for more information. Superm401 - Talk 20:09, 12 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, it's a little complicated. You can't just put their copyright notice because you're still copying it without their permission. You could ask them, but they would probably say no. Luckily, the US has something called fair use. That allows use of copyrighted material without permission, but only under certain conditions. To figure out whether this might be fair use, see Wikipedia:fair use; if you're not sure, put the text {{fairusereview}} on the image page and someone will look into it. Superm401 - Talk 20:20, 12 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, it's not a {{Promotional}} image because Midway didn't release it themselves to promote their product. If you think they did, show me the original source of the image. Superm401 - Talk 21:26, 12 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
I see that he's an Administrator on the board. Does that mean he's a Midway employee? Superm401 - Talk 23:56, 12 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough. I'll tag it as {{Promotional}}. Superm401 - Talk 00:05, 13 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
In the future, please provide sources for all your images and tag them if you can. I'm always available for help. Superm401 - Talk 00:23, 13 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sonic the Hedgehog edit

Hi Proud Nintendo Fan. Thanks for your contributions to the article on Sonic the Hedgehog. Please don't add the sentence regarding "many" fans wanting Ryan Drummond to return as the voice of Sonic. This borders on POV. See Wikipedia:Avoid weasel words for more info. Thanks! --Jtalledo (talk) 20:18, 2 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Image Tagging for Image:SmallerShangTsung.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:SmallerShangTsung.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Fair use rationale for Image:GoroMKSM.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:GoroMKSM.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 22:24, 21 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:SonyaMKSM.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:SonyaMKSM.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 05:29, 24 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
