My concern about your username

edit

Hello, Professor Hubert Farnsworth, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

Let me reassure you that my writing here means I don't think your username is grossly, blatantly, or obviously inappropriate; such names get reported straight to Wikipedia:Usernames for administrator attention or blocked on sight. This is more a case where opinions might differ, and it would be good to reach some consensus — either here or at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names. So I look forward to a friendly discussion, and to enjoying your continued participation on Wikipedia. Thank you. Your concern about my username

edit

Hello, The Fifth Horseman,

thanks for your message. After checking the username policy I'm not sure what is the exact reason for your concerns. Please let me me know what your problem with my username is, so I we can talk about them. I hope to hear from you. Thanx — Preceding unsigned comment added by Professor Hubert Farnsworth (talkcontribs)

To my understanding, your username implies identity of a Hubert Farnsworth and therefore might be subject to the criterion #2, pt 2 ("Usernames that match the name..."). However, since I have not heard of any living person of that name, may I ask if it is a reference to some fictional character rather than a real-life individual? --The Fifth Horseman 11:05, 30 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Actually, Professor Hubert Farnsworth is the name of a character featured in the animated TV-Series "Futurama", and is not the name of any living person I know, although I cannot exclude the possibility that there might be a real person with that name.
I thought it would be cool to choose the name of an old and slightly mad professor from a cartoon as my username. It has never been my intention using the name of any person existing in reality as my username.
So, I you've still got a problem with my username, please let me know.--Professor Hubert Farnsworth 11:10, 31 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Since the character is fictional, 2/2 does not apply. Consider any concerns I might have had about it nonexistent.
Good luck with your Wikipedia endeavours. :) --The Fifth Horseman 11:25, 31 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for uploading File:USSDahlgrenTB9.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 15:14, 8 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

File:USSDahlgrenTB9.jpg needs authorship information.

edit
Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:USSDahlgrenTB9.jpg appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided),authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

  • If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which:{{subst:usernameexpand|Professor Hubert Farnsworth}} will produce an appropriate expansion,
    or use the {{own}} template..
  • If this is an old image, for which the authorship is unknown or impossible to determine, please indicate this on the file description page.
If you have any questions please see Help:Image page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 21:47, 19 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Files missing description details

edit
Dear uploader: The media files you uploaded as:

are missing a description and/or other details on their image description pages. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors make better use of the images, and they will be more informative to readers.

If the information is not provided, the images may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.
