I visited the Preston McAfee article that you have created a few weeks ago. This appears to me to be a possible vanity article (see wikipedia:vanity guidelines) and I was just wondering what you thought about it and whether you believe that it holds notability or encyclopedic value that makes it suitable for Wikipedia. The article bears the same name as your username and you indicated on the initial edit that it is a "a self-description"; furthermore, you are the only user to have edited it, and the content looks like a resume or autobiography. In any case, it is generally not a good idea to write a Wikipedia article about yourself.

I understand the "don't self-describe" preference. As you saw, I was very clear that I was contributing the blurb about myself. I tried to be fair. I think it reasonable that someone describe me, simply because I have an entire creative commons book going up on wikipedia --see

-- which will make it more likely that people looking at that book say "Who's the author?"

By identifying the autobiographical nature of the contribution, I encouraged vetting.

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did in Buzzword bingo. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. --AbsolutDan (talk) 14:01, 30 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your message on my talk page. While your iteration of Buzzword Bingo may be superior to others that were listed at the article, Wikipedia is not a mere collection of links. What is needed is more cited content from reliable sources. Bare links do not help an article much, and we try to avoid them when possible. However I agree most of the links there were unnecessary, and also in the interest of fairness, I have removed them and instead replaced them with a single link to the Yahoo Directory category. If you'd like to add your site to that category. You can simply request that your site be added to the directory (look for the "Suggest a site" option). --AbsolutDan (talk) 23:12, 3 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
